Fancy lamp post

The other one is just around the corner somewhere.Certainly in the same group of streets.

Beautiful old lamp posts - I wonder who ever sold and bought such elegant street furniture. Or were they just destroyed and cast into outer darkness.

Spoke to a neighbour who was heavily involved in the project to save Ealing's remaining cast iron lamp posts.He tells me there are two of these in that particular area of Ealing and they are in fact the first two electric street lanterns in the world.They were restored by the Boroughs lighting engineers a few years back and the current lantern fitting is a replica of the original carbon arc lantern albeit now with a modern element.The previous design was from the mid 20th century and the globes were in fact the same as you find in a pedestrian road Island.
