Re Has anyone else had this? xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx no, but I can go one better!. Having been a customer for Thames Water for forty years I was surprised one day to get a letter and a pack welcoming me to Thames Water as a new customer. The letter was not addressed to me but a woman of foreign origin but to my address. I phoned T W who told me my account had been closed as I had sold my house to which I expressed surprise for obvious reasons. Not only was my account cancelled, I was billed for some money owing from it plus the money in advance under my new name!. I explained at great length I had not sold, moved , vacated or left my home in any way but no good said T W., your account has been cancelled!. But how come I asked, I have not told you anything like that, neither have you contacted me , apart from the Welcome Pack. Nothing doing said T W, YOUR account has been CANCELLED and there is nothing we can do about it. So I asked how come my account was cancelled without any instructions from me or agreement with them. Ah well said T W, if we get a phone call from someone who say they have purchased or occupied a property, THAT is all we need and proceed to cancel the existing customer and their account and issue a new one in the person who has told us re their now being in occupation. Not satisfied with this I found the name of the CEO and wrote an appropriate letter to him, not as though HE deigned to reply, some underling was made to do so. But there is no way T W will change their behaviour of relying solely on what a new person tells them,no proof, no contacting the existing customer, because they haven't got the time to do so!. And once an existing account has been cancelled, there is nothing they can or will do about it. Nice people, foreign owned I believe? That scenario is quite serious as if I were an 85 yr old or less compus mentis than I am now, I shudder to think what hot water I could have been placed in.
