New Bar on Northfields Avenue

Does anyone know the name of the new bar on Northfields Avenue opposite the tube station? Has anyone been? What's it like?

Right on Nigel, you took the words right outa m'mouth. We need a good salt beef sandwich deli, anywhere on Northfield Ave - fresh sarnies of The Big Apple street food variety, crab mayo, pastrami and chutney, salt beef on rye with slices of sweet pickled cucumbers and mustard, BLTs and all the rest. All with a range of milk shakes. its gorra be a success!

C'mon Gerry, you know that Northfields needs a salt-beef bar.There are already enough cafes and takeaways on Northfields.The speciality shops like Poisson and Cheddar Deli are doing well, surely that is the model to follow, not 'yet another' sandwich and coffee shop.

A 'proper' sandwich shop which does not try and be something it shouldn't.A bit like Parker's but with an eat in section. Panorama in South Ealing has also tried but cannot sell hot food!

If you don't like The Blah Lounge, why not just turn back and walk to a PUB called Duffys. Nothing pretentious about the place, just good beer,interesting choices of wine (limited), & if really hungry - hot dogs!!!!.Great landlord Pat, and friendly locals.

Bit like my thoughts on the Persian Terrace. Once a shisha pipe goes in that's it as far as I am concerned. Appealing to the wrong audience/area in my opinion.Try Greenford.

Kelly, agree with you.  We had eggs Benedict at Papillon earlier this week - it was good, especially with a double expresso and a glass of fresh orange juice.  The owners (or propietors) of Papillon are doing well - power to their elbows!

Thats a bit harsh, some of the cafes on Northfields ave are lovely, i'm a big fan of papillion - great eggs benedict!

Before this cafe opened, it used to be a motorbike shop. had a look inside today. Empty. Same with Florentine. Empty. I hate all the cafes on Northfields. Just a few weeks ago, me and my friend went to Jasmines cafe on northfields ave. The cakes looked nice from the window so i went for a coconut cake but when i took a bite, it tasted stale and off. I was too embarrased to complain so ate half of it hoping I wouldnt end up with food poisoning. I have since noticed that cakes are often a few days old and are left sitting in the window overnight. I wonder if the food inspectors ever check the cafes along Northfields ave to make sure they are storing things properly. Anyway, I wont be going to any of the cafes there. Load of rubbish. I prefer the cafe in Syon Park. At least the cakes are delicious and fresh.

Don't worry - Blah will not be long for this world.I give it 18 months at best.This being the amount of time that it typically appears to take for the average founder of one of these types of ill-conceived high street service businesses to, well, founder - i.e. exhaust all their capital and crawl away licking their wounds.Don't get me wrong - I applaud local entrepreneurial endeavour on almost every level and I certainly do not wish failure upon anyone - even someone with a chrome & mirrors fetish.  It's just that I favour businesses that at least understand their local market (and comes with some modicum of understanding of the principles of decent interior design as you say).

Sad to say that I would prefer the moped showroom back than have the current abomination to interior design that is the Blah Lounge.  What market exactly are the owners of this business trying to appeal to?  Certainly not the section of the local community that actually spends money on Northfields Ave..  Where is the French bistrot, fine wine merchants and boutiques that the area desparately needs.

Has there been an increase of curry houses, or has it been a case of one curry house being replaced with another?I can think of at least two or three examples of this in recent years.

Over the last two years we've noticed an increase not only of coffee outlets but of curry restaurants and take-away places in Northfield Ave. We're not complaining, but like your good self we can't see that they can ALL thrive.  Still, its better than pound shops and betting shops and too many charity shops.

I too thought it was a bar when I first saw it, which means they've got their image all wrong. Can't see it lasting long - I've never seen more than one table occupied.Lest we denizens of Northfields feel deprived of cafes, another new place, called Florentine, has thoughtfully just opened opposite the entrance to Lammas Park. Can there really be enough demand to support all these cafes on Northfield Avenue? There must be at least ten!

Blah?.. Bleurgh more like if the design of the place is anything to go by. Its full of TV screens, they have a sign in the window informing us that we can charge our phones there.As far as sitting down for a coffee its not exactly cosy,comfy or appealing in any way.

It's a cafe which serves hot drinks and sandwiches. Run by Polish I think.

Are you talking about Blah Lounge? I assumed it was a cafe, but have never been in to verify that. It doesn't seem to open into the evening so I don't think it's a drinking den.

Good idea Bud, do a full consumer test on this new bar near Northfields Station and we'll all pass the hat round to cover your EXs. Then immediately report your findings on this excellent forum.
