PIP starts today.

Is the objective for the new PIP(Personal Independence Payment) to save the government(ie we the tax payers) the millions of pounds spent on funding the present Disability Living Allowence? If so, how much money will be saved a year eventually?

Re Is this why the Legal Aid system is being reigned in xxxxxxxxxx everything is being reigned in Jean, we are bust as a country or well on the way, with little possibility of getting back on track. The problem goes back a very long time with governments giving " benefits " of various sorts none of which were/ are properly funded. Not as though we are alone in that, America supposedly in hock even more than Greece, Italy, Spain etc. The West has too much welfare slung round our necks, which the BRICS do not, and that coupled with other aspects, cheap labour, mineral resources and massive populations, we are gonna have tough times and declining fortunes, nationally and personally. Basically, we are living on our pasts.

Gerry the government plans to save 2 billion but as I just mentioned in another topic - how can they tell exactly how much they will save without checking whether or not the people are in genuine need?Id this just a cost-cutting exercise or they really trying to increase help for the genuinely disabled or are they cutting the benefits for all those who are claiming?How can they know exactly how much they will save BEFORE each claimint is thoroughloy checked to find out whether they are a deserving case?Are the panel experts in this field or pen pushers on a bonus for each person signed off benefits?It will be interesting to find out how this will work out and just how much the government will save. They will surely have to set up panels of 'experts' and that will cost money.What if the claimants take them to court for wrongly removing them from the benefits to which they were thought to be entitled?Is this why the Legal Aid system is being reigned in?
