Mitchell launches writ against the sun

Andrew Mitchell has launched a writ against the sun for saying he used the word 'Pleb' against police officers.What I want to know is what on earth does Pleb mean and is it an actual English word. I have never in my life heard of such a word. Am I stupid or have I been asleep all my life that during my English lessons at school, I never heard of such a word.Good luck to the sun. Hope they sue the pants of this irritable moron.

Chav should mean Can’t Have A Vote but it probably doesn’t. Pleb is another misused word from the past made to fit in with our times. I remember when gay meant happy energetic and carefree then it was hijacked by the homosexual community. Now in some places gay means a bad thing lets say for example the impending war in North Korea young people will say “Hey man that’s gay” meaning it’s a bad thing The English language changes all the time init.

Do you have PROOF that he used the words he is alleged to say -thought not.We have, now discredited, police collusion and 'evidence' as the sole source of these allegations.This could be a very interesting case.

It annoys me when I see people who are only trying to do their job and protect the public ie police and then someone like Mitchell acts like he does. The police told him he couldn't cycle here and then Mitchell starts swearing and using abusive language. Now he goes and issues a writ against the sun. The same goes for footballers who start crying or sueing because someone swore at them. At the end of the day, it is only a word and if people are so sensitive, then they should not be in the public eye. I would have expected better manners and standards from Mitchell. Politicians should be setting good standards for children to follow. So what I am trying to say is that I don't like to see grown up men using bad language in front of the public.

Pleb is a fine word - it rolls off the tongue with disdain and one can spit it out with feeling - love the word. I don't know anyone's who is a pleb.Hang about, wait a moment.(Having second thoughts)...someone who's undistinguished, vulgar, a member of the despised social class, low born, a commoner... There are a few on this forum site who are plebs and fit this description - but I won't name them! Except that I'm a pleb!

'Pleb' derives from the latin word Plebeian. They were people of the lower classes, not well educated, not aristocracy. In modern english he was calling him a low life. Or he wasn't - you decide.
