The area surrounding the Hanwell Community Centre, from Home Farm to Ruislip Road East, is called the Cuckoo estate which, together with Cuckoo Park used to be part of the self-sufficient estate belonging to the former school, already mentioned. If I remember correctly, the estate was built on either side of the second world war to accommodate either those families living in slums mostly from the East end of London and subsequently those whose houses were destroyed by the London bombing. Prior to pass under the management of Ealing Council it used to be part of the London Assembly housing stock.Nowadays most of it is on private ownership either as freeholders or leaseholders, following the ‘right to buy’ policy but part of it still remain under council ownership. Few years ago the whole area was given Conservation area status.Hope this piece of information is useful. If anyone else would like to add to it or amend it, please do so.I would like to add that the previous conservative administration spent around £4M (and set aside another £1.2M funding) on refurbishing this centre and bring it back to its former glory.
