Too much information???

Why is it when completing a form online to register purchase of a kettle do they ask so many personal questions?Agedate of birthmarital statuspartner's date of birthwhere did you but the producttelephone numberaddresswhat is your annual total incomeemployment statushobbiesinterests (you and partner)do you acess the internethow often do you buy goods on the internetwhat newspaper do you readwhat type of home do you live inDo you  own your own home or renthow many children do you haveHow many adults live therewhat type of cards do you haveThe list goes on....and all I wanted to do was register a kettle! Needless to say this information is so they can bombard people with adverts for their products or services and no doubt they would sell this information on to others.Needless to say I did NOT give them all this information.It is high time we told these companies to simply MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS!What do others think about this intrusion on privacy?

Re  others think about this intrusion on privacy?            xxxxxxxxxxxxxx  that intrusion Jean is far greater  than many realise. Apparently by using credit cards, every movement you make is recorded, what, where, how much, life style etc etc. Tesco's used that to say the real population of the UK is already 70 million, based on the amount of food purchased. There was also  a statement re the true figure for London based on the amount of " effluent " being discharged. Don't forget, all the figures we are told are based on known/registerd persons and there are many in this country who are neither.  But ye and me are being " tracked " , believe me.

From me they get the 'basics'.Any personal information is immaterial to my use of the product and I never divulge it.It is the same with ethnic and disability monitoring.I could be a one-legged, Samoan transgender dwarf (with apologies, of course to any one-legged, Samoan transgender dwarves/ persons of restricted growth who frequent this forum :-) ) and it would not make a jot of difference to how I use my credit card.  You my gather from this that I had that type of questionnaire with my card renewal :-)
