Arcadia Centre Expansion

The developers state that the revampled Arcadia Centre will 'breathe new life into Ealing'. So. How exactly does making TK Maxx four times bigger and doubling the size of McDonalds 'breathe new life into Ealing' exactly? It seems that whichever way you walk these days, you always end up on the edge of a precipice.

What a lovely idea that would be Keith. I cannot remember the name of the centre in Uxbridge (across from The Chimes) but they have markets in there and they're so popular. They have pet stalls / delis / wool and fabric etc etc. It's really nice and Ealing would benefit from this...

What a shame chance is being missed to change the Acadia centre into a market hall with fresh fruit veg, meat and  decent bread, . It would pull shoppers from miles around. A bigger T K Max, so what ? More space for MacDonalds ? big deal, A new Morrisons ? We have three in the area so nothing new there !

Can't really see how this is going to enhance as there are now quite a few supermarkets in Ealing Bdy when just a few years ago there was just one.Furtherback there was Sainsburys supermarket in the High street and that brash new american Safeways next door to the counter service Sainsburys in the Broadway. Almost full circle.apart from counter service!But apat from supermarket saturation, it's car parking for the supermarket shopping. It's the one trip to the shops that we do use a car for. Morrisons is fine but the Brentford one is so much more convenient to use, likewise Hanwells Lidle and West Ealing's Waitrose.Is a very strange choice to rationalise and expand but not really attract.

I rather like Morrison's. I go to a large one in Blackpool several times a year, and it's a very good, professionally run supermarket.  In this case, the emphasis on fresh produce also sounds attractive.

That would be good business idea for them. If I cant get a 1 hr free bay in w ealing I allways park in sainsburys then go and buy a load of stuff I dont want, just so as not to pay for parking. Probably not cost effective, but I go away happy  that i havent paid for parking!

why shop at Morrisons if there is very limited parking? Rather go to Brentford where parking is free.In Twickenham Waitrose pays your parking bill. Perhaps these three shops should do the the same since they are not small one man band businesses.

I'm no snob and come from good working-class stock but I despair when I see everything dragged down to the lowest common denominator.I suppose we should be grateful that there is redevelopment and that the units are 'pre-let' but is this the best we can do?

Sorry to hear Robert Dyas is going as it's a great store and some of the staff very helpful.  Our local branch of Mothercare is just wonderful and Ryan and Aggie are legends to us at home, so just hope Mothercare moves into alternative premises in Ealing and retains their staff.

Burgers and bin end designer gear is what the great unwashed of Ealing desire, that and plenty of mobile phone shops so they can get the latest handset to text their horrible friends to tell them what time to meet up for a burger.

Penny,If I'm understanding what's been written correctly, McDonalds, TK Maxx and Morrisons will occupy the entire centre. That is it. Everyone else is getting shipped out. Parking is provided by what is on the roof (very limited) and then Spring Bridge Road car park.

Will there be any parking for Morrisons? Can't see how it will be a success without it. Don't mind TKMaxx particularly but no interest in McDonalds. Depends which other shops will move in/out. Robery Dyas will be a loss

Am I alone in that I cannot see this as a good move for Ealing ?The last thing the Broadway needs is an expanded McDonalds / TK Maxx and a new Morrisons. For the owners of this centre, this is only good for them and must be a huge relief that they don't have to worry about empty units with the centre being used by 3 big name retailers.Benson Elliot who are the current owners are hoping the changes "will breathe new life into Ealing".For my love of Ealing I hope this does happen, but I cannot see it. I think this could have a very negative effect on Ealing.Agree / Disagree ?

I shall miss Robert Dyas, I do hope that they find another shop in Ealing.As for Morrison's, TK Maxx and McDonald's - so what?Yet more 'cloning' for the High Street.

It's a pity that other shops are being driven out.As for Morrison's, I guess another grocery option is always welcome.
