Is now the time of year when we spy the first swallows and swifts in the skies over Ealing? I believe they fly here all the way from South Africa - marvellous really. And I can't seem to find my way to certain parts of South London! 'nuff said.

You'd be a welcome Tony as a midgy repellent at our patio BBQs in Ealing this summer. What a beautiful place is the West o'Scotland, but I well remember being bitten to death by midgies there when in boarding school - was made to run between Tarbet Loch Lomond and Arrochar in gym outfit once a week - good for character building we were told!

"How much do you charge?"I think you may have mistaken my profession,I am a midge controller,is that your requirement?"Does it cost extra for wasps?"No,I am a Buddhist and charge all living creatures the same, septin midges that is.

You're a bit twerly Gerry, they arrive April-May. We get thousands up here on the west coast of Scotland, and most welcome they are too, gorging as they do on the infamous Scottish midges which would otherwise be gorging on me. In fact so tasty (to midges) am I that I rent myself out to stand in the corner at other peoples barbecues.http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/s/swallow/migration.aspx
