Thanks for your replies. I called the Bernina importers who suggested Tysons in Southall and MacCulloch & Wallis in Dering Street, W1. Ended up going to M&W - less than 5 minutes walk from Bond Street tube, so easier for me (I don't have a car and Tysons are a fair walk from the nearest station or bus stop). Great service in an amazing haberdashery shop that was new to me - old-fashioned in a good sense with a huge choice. My sewing machine was repaired on the same day. But I'll be checking out the Shepherds Bush suggestion in advance of any future breakdown as I suspect that W12 service and repairs will be rather more purse friendly than those found in W1.
