Betting shops in Ealing

Hi there. I'm doing a study on betting shops in London and would like to get local's perceptions of them in Ealing.It's quite a big issue at the moment, with a lot of people saying there's too many betting shops on their high-streets. Would really appreciate your input. You can also state what kind of outlets you'd like to see in your locality (or if you think your street has it all, what outlets do you like the most)The questionnaire only takes 2-3 minutes to do. Re  betting shops force people into debt            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  indeed so, and the very sort  who are most likely already in debt or close thereto. One needs only look at the persons who  habit betting shops to see that, they certainly don't look like the  well heeled. That those who have little money is no shame nor sin, but the issue here is the  enticing of relieving them of even more. Apart from the fact betting shops tend to lower the tone of an area.

Steven, I too am interested in knowing for what purpose the survey is being conducted.  What will the results be used for? Also, research should be impartial, yet your introduction rather biases responses by saying: "a lot of people say there's too many betting shops".  I am sure a lot of people (those who bet) might say something very different, such as "it's nice to have a choice of places to spend time in the company of potential millionaires". :)On topic (and potentially biasing things further!), The Sitar, a longstanding Ealing Curry House, seems to be destined to become a Ladbrokes (currently being refurbed).

If you don't know what the impact of betting shops has on the high street you shouldn't be doing the study! It is so basic: betting shops force people into debt, resulting in poverty and crime. They also take away footfall from the high street since independent retailers will not want to open where there are unattractive shops to complement their business. Junk food shops pop up to serve the gambler (fast food to serve the gambling addict who can't miss the next race) and anti - social behaviour is prevalent. Why don't you ask the Betting Shop chain for their opinion and then report back to us their argument? Now, that would be interesting.
