Marriage by same sex couples

On speaking to my muslim friends, I have been told that if ever two gay men or women were seen kissing or having a relationship, they would be executed or jailed. The Muslim community and even the Asian community are totally against this new bill and I am sure the conservatives will have lost many votes now. Only time will tell in the next general election, whenever that is.

It is so that they can demonstrate that they are sensitive to "difference".Same reason they started recording the ethnicity of patients.Shame that it is necessary really as it should be an absolute given that equal treatment for all will be provided.

My mum received a hospital letter and on the questionaire there was a question that said ' are you hetrosexual, bisexual, lesbian, and two others but i can't remember what they were. I just thought who on earth writes this rubbish. What use is this information to the hospital staff. You also get this question asked by the council. What relevance does someones sexuality have on the service they will provide you. Anyway, my mum refused to tick this box.

Re never know what harmful chemicals xxxxxxxxxxxxxx the current scandal re the horse meat is a classic example. Supposedly emanated from abbatoirs in Romania, then France, Holland. Luxembourg, Italy were all involved before it got here into the UK. IF the meat itself was transported through all those countries it surely would be much cheaper to use home " grown" meat?.

On one hand man has made marvellous progress in medicine and more lives are being saved yet also on the other hand, man is responsible for increase of disease and disasters such as the nuclear weapon and radiation and destroying the ozone layer, HIV, Aids, Cancers etc. When we buy food from the shops, we never know what harmful chemicals the manufactures have added which could make us become seriously ill purely for the greedy companies trying to make a quick profit.

As you rightly say, MAN came along and made things difficult *, not impossible as nature will take it's course but now we are heading into the sunny uplands of more enlightenment. Nature will win in the end, as we are now seeing. * for which there was a reason at the time.

Animals are slightly different they seek same sex partners for sexual gratification only. I have never seen two happily married dogs horses bulls or boars.

When man comes along and tries to change things, look what goes wrong. Mad cow disease, Aids, world disasters, horse meat scandal, breast sillicone leakages etc.Why can't humans just leave things alone. No, they always want to do things differently maybe just to spite god. I am sure many people will disagree with this, maybe that is why the world has gone so wrong.

Indeed it is Os.Nobody is demanding that it be accepted, just that they leave those who wish to pursue it alone to get on with it.There are a lot of things which I don't accept in the world but which I leave the people concerned to get on with. provided they don't hurt me (or anybody else) then all's fair as far as I am concerned.(The 'brick' argument was of course a reductio ad absurdum point. Kind of by way of extension to the "pet rock phenomenon of a few decades ago. :-) )

Re Anything else is wrong, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx who says so Asha, who says marriage is for procreation alone. And what about people who get married and purposely do not have children. Are they acting wrongly and what about married persons who can't have children, and what about persons who are deformed in some way, either physically or mentally, should they get married to procreate. A very vexed and complicated series of situations. And why can two persons not get married if they love one another. It is tradition that men and women unite in marriage, but some unite and procreate not in marriage, is that wrong?. And what of men who have 4 wives, is that wrong . Lots of questions there to be answered. Marriage and procreation do not necessarily go together.

Marriage is not about procreation. No church has ever proscribed a marriage where the woman is past child-bearing age. In the fifty years that we have had reliable contraception, more and more heterosexual couples have chosen not to have children; that does not make their marriages any less valid or legal.

Unless I am completely wrong OS not many animals mate for life but they do put it about a bit,sexually that is.JUst like many humans,gay or straight,married or not,do.Please don't compare us to animals,who are far superior morally as they don't do anything wrong to hurt others,unlike many of us.Why also is it immoral for two people who love each other to want to marry? Are you,like many others do with gay relationships,imbuing them with a sordid and seedy sexual element that you don't imbue to straight relationships? If so,it may be your morality that needs looking at perhaps.

I totally agree with you. Marriage does mean the joining of Man and Woman. Anything else is wrong, but nowadays you can't say anything or think anything without someone calling you racist or prejudiced.

It is time someone gave a new meaning to Marriage. I always believed it described the Joining together of Man and Woman....Male and Female .It seemed natural thing that Procreation followed a pattern. The Bees do it---The Animals do it--The insects do it--The Plants too follow a male and female requirement by nature. There ought to be some agreement on what may be for the best for Human kind.Next it will be Dads and Daughters ,Mothers and Sons Brothers and Sisters. Where is Morality to draw a line.My world is Changing and I am being left behind. I think I'll stay there.

I can't get my mind around the supposed religious morality of suicide bombers but not doing it yourself, and buggering some poor kid into the bargain. There seem to be worlds within worlds and ones which I don't understand or certainly don't want to live in. I like to be able to sleep at night and how those " people " can or do, escapes me. And all supposedly in worship of their God. Bluddy hell?.

A special Pakistani friend was here and with friends in Wembley when a series of TV programmes re Pakistan were on TV, so I told him to watch them, which fortunately he didn't as was too busy, but the programmes were done by a young Asian woman from this country who seemed to concentrate on trans gender / trans sexual males in Pakistan so I was relieved he did not see them as a portrayal of his country as seen from here, but when I mentioned it to him he said not to worry as " much of that sort of thing " goes on in Pakistan!! And a News Correspondent from Pakistan sends me many articles and info re his friends, several males of whom are extremely good looking, in the " photographic world " and quite obvious they are not strictly heterosexual, or wish to so make out. So I think it is a matter of the education of persons and their getting away from religious bigots?. But in Egypt what you say is more correct but certainly not in Israel. I well remember Margaret Thatcher who was very anti gay until Anthony Eden's son died of A I D s and who said Rabbi Jakobovits was her favourite religious leader ( in Finchley I suppose she had to say that ? ) but the very next day the State of Israel announced the lowering there of the age of consent for same gender sex down to either 14 or maybe 12, I can't remember which but certainly 14 and obviously almost championing gay sex in the process.

Re homosexual Muslim given their intolerance. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx in many instances you are right Nigel but there is a cerain amount of hypocracy in such countries. Apparently, sex with the same gender is almost taken for granted if between older and younger males plus other strange effects of the burqas. In the Khandahar province in Afghanistan I read 60% of the males have sexual relationships with other men because the women are hidden, the males are not, especially the youths who they then find attractive, and hey presto. And one reads of the most disgusting goings-on. Those strict adherents of morality, the Taliban, when sending off a young lad as a suicide bomber very often anally bugger him. What more gross dose of immoralities could one get. But two persons of the same gender, stone'em to death. Re no one is forcing you personally to have a gay marriage. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx exactly, what I can't understand or accept is why some people or organisations think they have the right to tell others what they must or must not do which are consensual and non harming. Shut up, go away, mind your own business. It is about time the peoples of the world stopped to ponder over certain matters. Ref has been made to gays if found kissing or showing any form of natural affection, would be killed or jailed in a Muslim country, where those people worship a man well into his fifties who fell in love ( supposedly, probably another feeling? ) with a girl of 6, asked for her hand in marriage!!, and consumated that marriage at her age of 9. Now who has got things ass about face. I know who I think. And some of those very same want to import their immorality into this country. And engage in female circumcision but kill , stone to death or jail two persons in love, amazing sense of proportion, not. Doing the work of God, some God.

You clearly misunderstand the principle that any adult should have the right to choose another consenting adult as their life partners.A pet doesn't qualify because they are not able to consent.If you don't like gay couples being treated as equals, no one is forcing you personally to have a gay marriage.

I am not clear where your sympathies lie, Asha. The Tories may well have lost some Muslim votes, assuming that Muslims are inclined to vote Tory in the first place, but they will have gained other voters.The biggest threat the Tories face is that of being too conservative/illiberal. It's what has made the Republicans in the US unelectable in recent years. The floating voter lives, almost by definition, in the political centre and Tories who think that moving their party ever further to the right is the way forward very much mistake the matter.

The op is highlighting that there is a lot of intolerance and prejudice in certain sections of our pluralistic and secular society.If you chose to live in such a society,the fact that your own differences are catered for and tolerated surely places the onus upon you to tolerate and allow for others.People seem to sometimes try to add a sordid and murky sexual dimension to gay marriage which they do not think of when straights marry.Marriage is about making a commitment to love and to cherish someone else is it not?Jesus himself alluded to the greatness of faith,hope and love.And the greatest of all being love.
