Tangled web

Poor old Mr.Chris Huhne, what a tangled web of porkies he seems to have woven. When will these politicians ever learn?

I certainy hope not.It seems inconceivable that she is the kind of woman to be cowed into something like this by an overbearing husband.No, she agreed to do it in my view.  (Which doesn't mean of course that she didn't have misgivings at the time.)Much though it pleases me to see the hypocrisy and corruption of those who would rule over us exposed and to see them pay for it as he has she is not entirely innocent in her own right either.She has seriously blotted her moral copybook by taking the action to leak it to the press that she did so long after the event.A case of two wrongs don't make a right I think.

I shall be very interested to see if a high-flying career woman like Vicky Pryce can get away with a defence of marital coercion. I can't see a 21st century jury buying it.

It is when the ego decides that the country needs you and any minor offences can be airbrushed out. a speeding ban is perhaps the most petty of crimes in comparison to many and it shows the arrogance and ego of some people. when reading lunchtime about how much he has spent on the case and then briefing that he would be cleared it shows the moral vacumn within him.

Re accept 3 points on his driving licence?          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  he  probably thought he could get away with it Jean and had too high an opinion of himself and or his status. And  did he not lose his licence, whether before or after that incident, I don't know but I am sure I heard that on the TV News last night. Maybe those 3 points would have resulted in that. And he may well go to jail, other politicians found guilty of perjury have, despite crying their innocence right up to the last. Who was the politician, author and candidate for Mayor of London who lied in Court. He went inside. And another Tory one who proclaimed his innocence on pain of his life, in he went, and subsequently wrote a book of his experiences in there.

Why on earth didn't he just own up in the first instance and accept 3 points on his driving licence? The whole matter would have been done and dusted!Not a very clever (ex) politician!His ex wife is now facing charges. His sons are disgusted by the father's behaviour.He lied and lied on TV and elsewhere through his teeth!It just proves that when you tell a lie you may well have to add many more lies to cover up!

A good constituency MP and a criminal. The former does not outweigh the latter.

The judge has hinted at a custodial sentence. I think he'll get one, but he'll go to the sort of prison that high ranking politicians are sent to, when they're silly enough to get caught and need to be made an example of in order to distract attention from the rest of them doing the same thing.He's screwed, but not in the "don't drop the soap" sense of the word.

to be fair some (most?) politicians are pretty hard working sorts that do a lot for their constituents - even Chris Huhne did a good job on that score by all accounts.

Gerry, these politicians will never learn because they think they are above the law. I bet he will get a suspended prison sentence but there is no way he will go to jail. He has enough money (taxpayers money) to pay his way out of going to jail.
