S1 Heating - has anyone used them?

Hi allI've just had a quote from S1 Heating for a full boiler replacement. I think they're based on Pope's Lane (according to the address on their quote)Just wondered if anyone has used them before? Their quote is certainly cheap but would rather hear from any previous customersMany thanksKaty

I would recommend Colin (sorry don’t know his surname), who came round to our place to fix our boiler recently. He came highly recommended on this very site, and I in turn can’t recommend him highly enough. He’s pleasant, punctual and really seems to know his onions. His number is 07759 768060Our Worcester Bosch is in pretty decent nick, but it’s nigh on 16 years old and probably won’t last that much longer.  He just told me to run it into the ground, so I agree with Tony’s point about replacing a boiler simply because it’s old.I also asked Colin how much it would cost to install a brand new, high quality boiler (like a Worcester Bosch or Vaillant) and he said round about £2200. I believe that’s the going rate but I may be wrong.

Often happens Tony.My point was to illustrate that you don't necessarily need to replace a boiler after 10 years or so as you said.

I have a 17year old Worcester that is serviced once a year.In that time I once had to have a new heat exchanger and there was a small leak.Still going strong(touch wood)

Is your boiler playing up?Unless it is very very old then there is no point in replacing it just because it has reached a certain milestone.The practice of replacing boilers that have been properly looked after once they pass ten years old is a scam.  (Though unfortunately many require replacing long before thet due to abuse and / or not having been installed correctly in the first place.)

I haven't used S1Heating, so can't offer a view - but thanks for raising the question of a new boiler. We'll need to replace ours sometime later this year. What's a good efficient boiler to serve 11 radiators and to provide instant hot water for kitchen and bathrooms? Our existing boiler is ten years old and will soon be past its sell by date. Thanks.

Never used them, but I would suggest that you get a comparative quote from Mark Charnock of Charnock Plumbing and Heating based in St. James's Avenue W13. He has done sterling work for a number of forum members.
