Waggamama

Have any of you good people tried this yet? Wifey and I fancy Japanese on Sat. night and would appreciate any opinions.

Definitely Atariya for sushi and Kiraku for the whole lot. NOT cheap and Atariya's prices have gone up recently by a whopping 20-25%. But you get what you pay for, and the quality is fantastic, as is presentation, if you care about the latter.

I don't know if it was called that previously but the place I mean is right opposite Ealing Common Station.Heston B himself rates the place as having the best sushi but I only have the sushi at H&T(gone downhill a little since the refurb imo) to compare it with and it is much better than that.

I agree about the food Jamie.Not the best and definitely not authentic Japanese although I'm not sure they claim it to be.We had pretty good service and went on Saturday night.The place was very full.Kiraku is next on our list but have you tried Atariya a few doore down from it? That is also authentic and not westernised in any way.I'm sure you would enjoy the food and the surroundings there.

I went lastnight and must say IMHO it isn't as good as the Hare and Tortoise. The service wasn't great and it wasn't overly busy. We had to ask 3 times form my wifes main course and the gyoza dumplings came out as we finished the mains. In fairness they did say the dishes wouldn't come out at once but 3 mains arrived with my wife's 20mins later!If you want a true taste of Japan you need to head to Ealing Common and go here: http://www.kiraku.co.uk/It isn't westernised like Wagas or H&T. We have gone with friends from Japan who have aid it is just like home. Appreciate there maybe more rice and noodle dishes at Wagga then H&R but in future I will stick to Kiraku for authentic and H&R for a quick midweek bite.

Interestingly, Waggamama Ealing are now doing delivery. I got one of their flyers though my postbox last night.

Went on Saturday.Pretty good value for what it is and pleasant and efficient service.Grub 6.5/10.

Haven't tried this branch yet - tried others and found them OK but not great. Is the seating in the Ealing branch comfortable? Is it noisy in there? Is the portioning of food adequate? Is the wine list reasonable?The outside seating at the front looks appealing, when the weather gets warmer - should be a pleasant place for a light snack in the summer. I like the way they've cleaned-up that passageway. Must try Wagamama Ealing soon.

Yes have tries Hare and Tortoise but don't think it is as good since they rehashed the place a couple or 3 years ago.

Have you tried the Hare and Tortoise Keith? Good sushi and a variety of rice/noodle dishes. I'm a sucker for their gyoza and malaysian chicken curry

Yeah I looked at the menu and it is vaguely Japanese but with plenty of twists so I am not sure it is authentic Japanese.We go to Atariya at Ealing Common and that is very good.Having said that I'm no food snob don't mind the twists etc. if it tastes good ,isn't too expensive and the service etc is ok.It sounds like this place is in between a restaurant and a fast food outlet but it might be fun.

I haven't been to the Ealing branch but I've eaten at other Wagamama branches over the years. It's a decent enough quite-fast-food restaurant that I'd much prefer over any of the generic burger joints if I was in Ealing Broadway. But it's always been fairly basic stuff that I would never have thought to describe as "Japanese", even though I note that they claim their menu is based on Japanese cuisine.I'd be more likely to go for the filling fried noodle dishes here than any attempts at sushi or the like. For that, I'd go to a real Japanese restaurant.
