Optician recommendation for cataract?

Can anyone recommend a local W.Ealing or Ealing optician / optometrist who is likely to be sympathetic to referral for NHS cataract surgery rather than simply saying "no chance - you'll have to wait until it gets worse" (because of PCT money-saving rationing causing disregard for NHS clinical guidelines including the fact that my vision is critical for my occupation)?

Hynes is an independent optician, not affiliated with any of the big chains. Yes, they will try to get you to order frames but in all the years I've been going there, I've never actually bought any specs from them! They will give you your prescription if you ask for it.

I am 62 so it was an NHS eye test. Certainly the company never sent me the results/prescription as they are apparently supposed to. But I'd expect there to be a record of them having claimed payment.

On record with who? I'd be surprised if it made it out of the company that did the test. There are all sorts of confidentiality issues around that sort of thing.

Thanks all. I'll try Hynes I think. The big chain I went to 6m ago only really seemed interested in selling specs, which were of course useless for cataract. That eye test will no doubt be on record, which rather precludes me pretending I don't know what the problem is.

I was referred to my GP for a cataract operation last year by Hynes Opticians in Northfield Avenue. The operation was done by the Moorfields Eye Clinic at Ealing Hospital. The cataract wasn't that bad but I have to drive every week as I'm carer for my brother.

By all means bypass your GP, but keep her(or him) informed. Apart from beinf courteos, it is the right thing to do.

By-pass your GP and go to the Western Eye Hospital and tell them that you have occluded vision and no idea what is causing it.
