Cannabis Factory found on Murray Road.

I was amazed to read that Police have discovered a..Cannabis Factory..on this nice quiet residential road,in South Ealing,as I happen to live on this road,and it had gone undetected for quiet some time,as police have said,those Cannabis Plants had grown as large as Xmas Trees,it is unbelievable as we also have a neighbourhood watch in this area,including.. Murray Road..a 17 year old has been charged,with this undispictable crime and rightly so before it gets into the wrong hands and destroys the future lives of others.

Am sure it's not meant to be but 7/8 times is no boast.Surely the neighbours should be able to spot it ''a mile off''?Drugs are the root of a lot of evil and miscreants should be dealt with very harshly.

Stone the crows Councillor and there was I thinking we lived in a quiet, respectable, sleepy and law-abiding suburb! Like Teresa I'm shocked to learn of such dubious goings-on in our tranquil township!  7 or 8 times since your election? Struth!  What shall we do about it?

Teresa,Unfortunately these cannabis factories have turned up in this ward 7 or 8 times since I have been a councillor.  I guess they like the fact that the population is very mixed and it is a quiet, hard working neighbourhood where people mind their own business.  The perpetrators are often Vietnamese or other SE Asian nationals.  Things to look out for is very little comings and goings - they pretty much lock the gardeners up in there and covered windows.  These are very serious criminals so don't mess with them.  Call the Police.  The Police are very active in looking for them.  They tend to pay landlords cash up front.  Do not be tempted to take cash if you are a landlord.  Your place will get very badly trashed or even burnt down.  It is hard though to have much sympathy with landlords who are taking large sums of cash up front off organised criminals.

Sorry Keith but the give away is the "hash" (NPI :0) radio frequency noise) given off by their grow lights, easily detected on a short wave radio though it could be mistaken for the hash from a plasma TV if you don't know the frequency to look at.

It's not heat what the peelers are looking for in their chopper.It's UV light. Most farms are in rooms completely sealed from emitting light.Also, a massive rise in electricity consumption is an indicator.

What are skins in this context( my ignorance re drugs of any description is to be believed) and to incite  adverse comments, I have no sympathy  for anyone suffering from drug taking. These days there can be no-one who is unaware of the potential dangers  and drug pushers and suppliers should be horse whipped, especially those who wait outside schools!.

Susan - Loss of heat through the roof is apparently no longer an indicator of cannabis factories because they are so good at insulating the roofs now.  (They used to be detectable from the police helicopter monitoring heat loss.) Similarly steaming up of windows no longer occurs because of clever extraction systems.

Helen is right.Any house on any road is possible a location for a cannabis factory. Around three years ago one was discovered in a house in Northcroft Road - a few minutes walk from Fielding Primary School.

Teresa should not have been surprised. The area around the southern end of Northfield Avenue has been quite a hot spot for cannabis factories. The perpetrators like quiet suburban roads for their activities. I think it is something of which we should all be aware and on the lookout for. A rented house in Blondin Avenue being used as a cannabis factory went up in flames not so long ago causing major damage to neighbouring houses as well as the house itself. This seems to be becoming a very organised business and they are becoming better at disguising the use. Signs to look out for are undrawn curtains, no rubbish being put out and comings and goings mainly after dark.

Indeed, but the horrendous mess that is created by these things will be for the poor unfortunate owner to clear up and, increasingly, the damage left behind by cannabis farms is, inexplicably, not covered by insurance companies.

She means dispicable of course, but it amuses me that such a typo was made in the chosen context, as, such a word, had it existed, would mean not dispicable at all.Did cannabis really ever ruin many lives (say compared to tobacco or alcohol)?I know that it is said to be much stronger these days than it was thirty years ago, but even so...
