Olde Ealing

Was there once a music hall in Ealing - like there was one in Chiswick?Where exactly was the old police ststion in central Ealing - the one with a large blue lantern outside? Thanks.

Well whadya know Brian, the "understage" void.  Gosh I never knew that! Loved that basement record dept of WHSmith's - used to spend hours in there and the little money I had! Happy days.

The theatre was on what is now W H Smiths.  Indeed, up to about 10 years ago, the record dept. in Smiths was down some steps into a basement.  This basement was the "understage" void of the theatre.

The Olde Police staion was at No. 5 The High St. about 100 yards down from the junction with The Broadway on the left,near the old Post Office and a butchers shop.The Blue Lamp was the one used at the start and end of Dixon of Dock Green.

I don't remember a music hall but the old police station was on the left hand side of the High Street (going south), alongside the old, old Post Office.  This was roughly where the covered pavement of the shopping centre now is and was between John Sanders store, (now M&S), Sainsburys and the Three Pigeons pub (now the Mexican eatery).
