The False Gods of today.

Money, Greed and Selfishness rules supreme These are todays false Gods and in their places of Worship there is No Room for the Sick,the Elderly and the Poor if they have little or no Money to their name.Strange though it may seem all those Top officials like Bankers, MPs ,and top company Directors when caught doing things that they were not suposed to do, always walk away when the heat is on, with Huge pay offs bonusses and even Pensions but still say they are giving in their resignations to do the HONOURABLE thing . I am trying to figure out if they are right in making such a claim. They do not wait to be exonorated from complexity . The BBc Director just stays in the Job for 54 days but collects a pay off of £457,000 plus I am told a pension of a million pounds a year for........Doing the Honourable thing ? The mind Boggles.

Yes it's so sad that it's difficult even to buy a present for kids today. Lost the joy of opening presents on Christmas morning. I now  have to  give money to my grandsons since they have everything and that's no fun.Really miss seeing excited smiley faces opening surprise gifts. Anything I suggest is met with' already got one of those' so it's a plain card with money this year.....so sad !!!!!

I have no sympathy for her either and would much prefer for her and all of her ilk to suffer to the greatest extent allowed by the law.It is however telling, I think, that the prosocution trick-cyclist was in agreement that she was not fit to stand trial.  IOW, it sounds ulikely that she is pulling a fast one.

Re  they call themselves 'Honourable'         xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  exactly, and they're still at it after all the adverse publicity. Some blessed member of the House of Lords ( and you can't get more honourable than that! ) also head of Essex C C ? has been accused of spending £300,000 via a credit card. As you say Jean, the mind boggles.

I'm not defending her, as she's still insisting she's done nothing wrong, but I don't think the mental illness is an act.

Yes Susan,she might now be suffering from depression .I find it hard to believe that it has not been brought on by Shame. There are so many elderly folk, young Couples and disabled people being deprived & having to cope with Cuts and price rises that it is Sad to see someone who had SO MUCH, and yet stooped so low. OK she might now be too depressed to face the consequences. I would prefer to hear that she has paid back all she took, plus a massive fine.Coupled with this ,She must be banned from ever holding any public office for a prescribed period. I think with her record you would be turned back from even entering Australia for a holiday- that is how any of us would be treated. So why not an MP,who pontificates over others in her day to day contacts with the voters. I would not be surprised if she is not the last of the sharp lot.

I can believe that she is suffering from depression; she certainly looks absolutely terrible compared with two or three years ago when she was vigorously protesting her innocence.

Another MP discovered to have lined her pockets with Parliamentary Expenses .£53 Thousand Pounds may seem pea-Nuts to some folk ,but it is a fortune to others. She gets away with prison because she claims she is suffering from Depression...Thousands of Uk workers have lost their Jobs,life savings and are facing a future of little hope, yet they can be expected to face the music for a small Benifit fraud. They have been driven into depression for certain.They had very little to start with and are charged with Benifit Fraud. Margarete Moran had so much and Yet finds a way out. Whatever next.

Rule of thumb (hardly accurate) divide by 20 = roughly £40,000 per year - lot less if want wife to to get a large amount as an inheritance annuity.

Hi Tony ,Nice to share our thoughts about the events of the day.I have no trouble accepting that the amounts first quoted by radio or Media reports almost always get updated as a couple of days goes by.It might still get updated.  It does not change the fact how the public views such Pay-offs, of what is a large sum money for what happens.Thanks for any input that corrects and seeks to update.

Re  .if it had been offered to me,              xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  it should never have been offered and the person doing so is as guilty as the recipient, who was rewarded for failure, at OUR expense. For Patten to say it was essential so as to clear the matter up quickly and retain the miscreant's cooperation is nonsense. Sack the blighter and haul him into Court where he would have to cooperate, so now Patten should go as well. Let's hope No. 10 have the guts to do  it and withdraw the  benefit for failure as was done with Fred the Shred .

It does seem rather generous. But the question is...if it had been offered to me, would I have accepted it or rejected the offer? I guess most of us would accept; me included.

Re  plus I am told a pension of a million pounds a year for.            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I think you will find Os, the pension POT is £850,000 so what pension per annum that produces I am not aware but certainly  not one of a million. His disappearance should be followed by Patten. The B B C is a sink for licence payers' money and what they produce is basically a load of ( lefty ) rubbish anyway. Warrants a massive weed out. And not only was this Director only in the job for 54 days, he left it because he was an utter failure so why on earth was he rewarded at all. Disgusting madness.

Thanks for that information Tony. I heard it on the radio station.Even if you are correct Tony The sums involved are huge compared to what would be acceptable to a Country trying to cope with the severity of the times

he didn't get a pension of £1m a year. He has a pension pot of £800K or so (much of which he will have contributed himself) which he will need to purchase an annuity / annual pension of something in the order of £40K a year.
