Can we have one too Mr Cameron???

I see that our PM has now decided to give Scotland a referendum on whether or not they want independence.My question is - why can't we have a referendum on the EU membership???I shan't hold my breath!

Treating a patient in a High Dependency Unit can cost over £2,500 per day. Depending on length of stay this can easily mount up.Hardly surprising that the NHS now has to drastically cut corners to save money.Surly this cannot continue without serious consequences?

I would be surprised if we got a penny from them if they leave the union.I have a feeling it is us who will be paying them for years to come either way.If Salmond expects to join the EU and keep the Pound,he will have to think again.He can't have his cake and eat it.

Often when you want to opt out of a 'union' there are large alimony payments.If the Scots pay the English £30 trillion for a divorce - would that do it?

Salmond will promise whatever it takes to make himself King of Scotland.I've been amused by Nicola Sturgeon's burblings this last week; if you listen to her, the new independent Scotland will be paved with gold, with every citizen having his/her own flying carpet and dining on caviare and champagne.

Will the natural resources that Salmond keeps banging on about not have to be used to pay their share of the national debt...a fact that seems to be continually ignored.

If the Scots do leave, will they join the EURO or have their own currency? No way they can have the English Pound if they want out.And what about defence?

Might one inquire as to what Councillor Taylor does not agree with: splitting the Boroughs of Ealing and Southall, the re-instatement of care and facilities for the disabled and elderly, or letting Southall get on with their parking facility creation frenzy paid for exclusively by Southall residents? I can see great merit in splitting the Borough down the middle: Southall, Greenford, etc. could have special local units to deal with beds in sheds and Ealing, Acton, etc. could have special planning units to deal with the likes of Ealing Cinema.

I would be more intersted in a referendum on splitting Ealing into two boroughs, that is, Ealing and Southall respectively. The residents of Southall could continue building worthless car parks, etc., while the residents of Ealing could re-instate care for the disabled and the elderly.

Funny you should say that Martin. I can't imagine why anyone would even consider voting for them either but all my family in North Bucks think he's wonderful. They live in a little middle class cocoon and to them membership of the EU is paramount !To me it's a non issue as big corporations run this country and every other so it become irrelevant. I feel that as a unit, i.e. Europe, we stand a marginally better chance of a counter balance to the power of the US and China.

If Scotland vote for to split up the union they will surely have to negotiate their own EU terms of entry. This will involve commiting to the Euro and to greater fiscal control from the EU. They would be a net recipient budget wise so would have little say over this I would imagine.#Either way,I don't imagine it would cost the English any less.

Jean - your two opening paragraphs are exactly the reason why we should not have any more referendums.It places to much power into the hands of the Executive.We elect MPs to take decisions on our behalf, so research before casting your vote, and make sure it is for the MP who will deliver what you require.

One of the reasons for the Union was to stop our antagonistic neighbours signing up an agreement with some Johnny foreigner.How may we be sure that the defence of the Realm will not in the next 300 years be put at some kind of risk?When the oil runs out as we keep being told it will, (the supply is reducing each year) I wonder how those Scots will survive financially. When interest rates go up as at some point they will, how will Scotland deal with that and survive economically?Scots are supposed to be canny. Will they be so in 2014?

Indeed, we did have a referendum to vote whether or not we should stay in a trading block that we had already joined.No one, at the time, voted to stay within an over-bloated, self-serving, sovereignty-stripping, expensive bunch of bureaucrats.

Any question can be loaded to ensure the Government gets the answer they desire.Ireland rejected the first referendum but their leaders wouldn't take NO for an answer and many in Ireland have regretted that decision ever since!I would imagine that the majority of residents in this country never could have imagined in their wildest dreams just how much power we have given away to Europe!The EU appears to influence any decision made by our Government, but what have we gained in return I wonder?

We are supposed to have a partnership with Scotland - so why haven't the rest of the UK been offered a referendum about the Scots leaving?

Good.Let's hope in that case that the Scots vote yes.Maybe the English elderly, it they need a care home, can have it free like the Scots. Also no university fees as for Scotland.Oh and by the way the UK did have a referendum re the EU many years ago and voted in favour. How many more do you want? Or do the Scots get a second go if the minority do not win first time round?

90% of scottish households receive from the state than they pay in tax.
