On the contrary it's your entire set of comments there that's impertinent, and utter gsrbage from start to finish. Do you profess to be an expert psychologist and mindreader? - because if so you urgently need re-training.Re the spelling, it's entirely understandable that somebody whose first language may not be English, and whose first alphabet or syllabary may not even be a Latin or even Cyrillic one, should get the name not quite right. heaven knows I still struggle and trip up over some aspects of Servian or Bulgarian script let alone Arabic or the Hindic syllabaries, so would be likely to make similar errors if the occasion arose. To politely put somebody right as I did is surely the least one should do, not just leave them to continue to repeat the same mistake. I wouldn't bother in the case of an obviously or apparently native English speaker because it would in such a case be most likely to be a careless typo, or just possibly mild dyslexia.Presumably you would consider that my reaction to the Frenchman who kindly corrected my rusty French grammar on my first morning across the Channel in my youth should have been to take offence and hit him and/or walk away?As for my asking about Satpal's knowledge of the historical background - your assertion that this was "masquerading under a thin veil of apparent curiosity" is plain offensive, libellous even. The curiosity, and the desire to discuss the matter, was and remains genuine. I have appreciated being told various aspects of (for example) Indian and Ceylonese history by folk from there or whose families were - so why not the reverse? While have no time at all for the notion of 'citizenship tests', compulsory or otherwise, I consider it good that knowledge of the history of this island and its peoples should be disemminated among them that live here - though not to be forced down the throats of them that really aren't interested.Of course for all we know Satpal may be well versed in he subject and even have qualifications in English/ British history - which is more than I have - never even passed history GCE. But neither you nor anybody else here apart from Satpal knows that.I've taken the time and trouble to respond in full to your ill-considered posting because it seems out of character with your usual - unlike the others that's weighed in here in similar vein. Be assured if a similar occasion arises I will post as I see fit, regardless of the self-appointed censors and thought-police among us.
