Tory MP charges taxpayer to learn Hebrew for his partner. Nick Boles has spent £678.80 on studying Hebrew after entering into a civil partnership with last year. Now this is the very same MP who called for pensioners to be stripped of their winter fuel payments. free prescriptions and bus passes!Nice one Nick! Matthew Sinclair, Chief Executive of TaxPayers' Alliance, said 'Nick Boles has abused this taxpayer-funded perk in order to make conversation around the breakfast table a little easier.'

For £678 it's hard to believe that he learned to say anything more than 'Pass the marmalade'.

Re  free prescriptions and bus passes!          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  maybe if we get them written in Hebrew they would be safe. The whole thing stinks. Unless he communicated with his partner before and during the Civil Partnership in grunts or sign language,he doesn't need to learn Hebrew,although I cannot determine if it is he or the partner who " needs "  to learn it

Mr Boles's partner almost certainly speaks excellent English -- most Israelis do. That doesn't mean that Mr B shouldn't learn Hebrew, although he should do it at his own expense.

Raises interesting questions about immigration status. If you want to apply for British nationality you have to pass various tests including competence in the use of English. So unless we have a Tory here who does not believe in integration of aliens into the British way of life, let alone treating the elders with dignity, it seems odd that he did not pay for his lover to learn English. Or perhaps he has and claimed that on expenses as well.This odious MP insect says he is entitled to claim – presumably under H of C rules. I would have thought the intention behind the rules is for an MP to earn a foreign language for the purposes of furthering British political interests. I wonder if he opposes the Palestinian cause and wishes to support the maintenance of Israeli borders.He has a very good academic record. It might be thought that he would have the brains to teach himself Hebrew without using my taxpayer money.

Sorry I don't understand. If Mr. Boles wants to learn another language for private reasons, then good for him. But why should he charge the public for his evening classes?
