Kerbside recycling throughout Ealing now - is this a joke?

From Ealing TodayCouncillor Bassam Mahfouz, portfolio holder for transport and environment, has sent this response:'' We know that there have been problems with this contract but things are improving all the time. On Tuesday we saw all streets in the borough returned to kerbside sorting with the complete roll out of new recycling vehicles.No, there was no kerbside recycling in Sunnyside Road on Tuesday this week (31st July) all the recycling was tossed into one big truck just as it has been since Enterprise took over in April.Either Councillor Mahfouz is mis-informed, or in denial, or both.

If we stopped the paper we never read etc, stopped buying stuff we don't even take out of the packet and throw away, we'd have less to recycle and separate. I tried it - it does work - BUT I can't print it off as a neat schedule.  You will need to highlight the dates on your calendar - and if you are lucky (and you've paid for a collection and the paperwork has all gone through properly) they will be right.Otherwise there are subsidised composters for sale and a free one going on the Chiswick W4 website. It isn't necessarily easier 'just paying for it'!  You have to check everything you purchase nowadays.

They sent a calendar to me when I got my green wheelie bin, the only problem was they sent the wrong calendar, so I was putting mine out on the wrong Monday !!  I did find the correct info on the website though. Beggars belief they couldn't get something so simple correct.

If your collection is missed it is important to report it.  If reported missed before a certain time you used to be sure that it would be collected the following day. Then you would happily either bring it out early the next morning or leave it there overnight.Just imagine how much worse it would be if it were wheelie bins we were having to haul backwards and forwards.  We'd look like Brent with wheelie bins all over the pavement, rolling into parked cars and front gardens like wheelie bin parks. Isn't there a PDF schedule on the LBE website that you can download so you can tell when your next garden waste collection is due?  No?  Oh silly me it's just sensible Councils that do that, giving their residents the power to work WITH the collection company for the smooth delivery of a service that the residents pay for.

Our day is Monday and we are the same they have been round today Saturday does that  mean they won't be round on Monday does anyone at enterprise no what's going on because I am sure the resident of Ealing don't no

Our recycling day is a Wednesday. We'd our recycling collected on Wednesday. Today, Saturday, we've had our recycling collected again.What is going on with Enterprise? Taking everyone by surpise?!

With regards garden re-cycling.How are you meant to know when they are collecting it?It says fortnightly but I have been away and do not know/remember when they last did my road so presumably I have to 'hope' they colect it next week.Waste of £70 I think.

6818 reported missed recycling collections in April.An awful lot of people wouldn't have got round to reporting.  It shows how important it is to report your missed collections.

Second week of kerbside collection in Vallis Way. However the end bit of our road hasn't had a proper clean up for months apart from the occasional litter picking every now and then. It is a disgrace. Rather than attending the ever increasing photo shoots, our leaders should be doing a bit more walk about on our streets so that he can really see the sorry state of our roads and pavements, as they have pledged to do. Perhaps we should be starting our own road cleansiness rating: Vallis Way 0 out of 10. How would you rate yours?

This Tuesday Sunnyside Road had its first kerb side recycling round from Enterprise. They arrived 4 hours later than usual. To make up Enterprise seem to have decided to skip the sweeping visit - as evidenced by the recycle dropped behind. Maybe the council lurkers on this thread can get it sorted?

On Sutherland Avenue we have had 3 missed recycling collections in the past 4 weeks!  The last time we rang up and complained (on Wednesday) the collection actually happened on the next Sunday.  Notice of missed collections before 12 noon is supposed to mean that you get a next day collection.  This service just gets worse and worse!

Well someone must be secretly reading the forums and taking action to appease the complainers (like me).Boston Road was machine swept twice today after the refuse and (seperated) recycyling collection.This was followed soon after by a team of broom pushers who swept around and under the parked vehicles swept the pavements and left it looking like it used to look every week under the previous administration. The resultant grren bags were collected less than an hour later.Thank you 'secret reader' can you arrange this every week please?

I guess it's 'gallows humour' Andy.I cannot believe the general level of incompetence every time Labour are let anywhere near the purse strings. OK the Tories are FAR from perfect but they can run  a budget.

Nigel, it would all be wholesome 'guffaw fodder' if it wasn't for the fact that these t*ssers are 'toasting the muesli' with peoples' hard earned cash.  If I had the stamina, I'd make a 'Freedom of Information' request to ascertain the proportion of Ealing homes that are paying full/partial/zero council tax.

Tee HeeSo, as it would be written by a 'certain' councillor.Making progress in delivering services to the most needy in our society. We have long recognised the need to release those trapped in their headboards but cuts in the grant from central government means that we will have to close day centres to target this vulnerable group, we have no choice and have listened to those most affected whose voices are often muffled by blankets.We are delivering on community safety. No longer will burnt eggs and toasted muesli be a threat to wider society and we are introducing a (paid for) eggs and muesli collection service.We are delivering on reducing inventory. The previous administration's spending on Bonzo dog food was profligate. In future only Harrod's doggy bix, which we are assured by our contractor can be provided at a reduced cost for the next fifteen years, will be provided. Although there have been teeting troubles these are all now behind us and the goldfish are finding the new arrangements so good that we will be re-stocking Walpole Park as soon as we can get the fountains working!  The reduction in dogs by failing to feed them is another thing on which I have peronally delivered.

you are right the recycling is a joke and the one which is great we have to pay to have our garden rubbish taken away and yet where I live in south ealing people are just leaving the rubbish out but not in the green bags so its not taken by the lorry that comes for the garden staff so it's left there then the next day the smaller trucks come round and pick it up because people must complain about it so whats the point of me paying when you can just leave it out and you still pick it up  free of charge so this is very unfair on us that have paid don't you think councillor Bassam Mahfouz

To invoke the name of  my favourite philosopher "Testacles"!!!It was all being dumped together on Boston Road this week.The road then received a perfunctory 'sweep' and there were green bags dumped for three days before collection.Simply, get your damned act together Cllr Mahfouz. Get out on the streets and stop patronising residents with supposed 'progress' reports!!!If I can see that why can't those paid to monitor the contract?

Weds 1 Aug, 8.45pm.  The recycling wagon eventually arrived.  It was 'kerbside sorting', but the vehicle was the ridiculous type that has a hydraulically operated 'basket' arrangement that has to be swung upwards every 5 minutes to enable the basket's contents to be dropped into the vehicle's hopper(s).  The previous contractor's vehicles were far better suited to the job in both size as well as function.Didn't the pea brains in the town hall check what vehicles were going to be deployed in Ealing by the new contractor?Obviously not, the t**sers.
