Ealing Comendy Festival Musings...

Attended the Ealing Comedy Festival last night (Wednesday 18/7) and was quite disappointed. The onus seemed to be on what they could sell from the concessions in terms of food and drink, and not on what the punter paid for the tickets and the value they were getting.Example:Show should start at 745 p.m. Cue numerous calls form MC for patrons to take their seats. Host comes on and does a 10 minute piece and then first act.Then they have an interval for 15 mins which turns into 20-25 mins by the time everyone gets back to their seats. Second act (Milton Jones - quite disappointing) comes on for about 25-30 mins (wonder what he got paid for that!!!) and then, you guessed it, another interval.At that point, we called it a day.For future reference organisers, you do not need so many intervals. The show loses its flow and I feel let down by the experience.As a final note, I thought the park did not look nearly as bad as some have written about on this Forum, but that's me...

The Ealing Comedy used to be a fantastic week with some really great acts many of whom are huge names now. But then locally clubs like Banana cabaret in Acton and the other local pubs in Chiswick, Ealing and Hanwell all used to get really good up and coming acts constantly and it was a good low cost friday night out.Even the established venues locally seem to struggle to get good acts now and it's getting expensive.We went with a group of pals to see this years shows and it was not as good in consistency as in past years. Have to agree that the breaks and hype tend to disrupt the flow of the show and the acts are much shorter in time.

Comedy is subjective.  I for one thought Milton Jones was very good and Rich Hall was excellent.  Each to their own I suppose.

Since I posted this article, I'm informed by more than a couple of friends that Rich Hall was also a huge disappointment, so all in all, the 3x acts that night were all a big let down.I think Roger Monkhouse was the highlight for me - in retrospect, would pay to watch him for sure....

I agree. Comedy is a kind of entertainment that isn't suitable for intermissions because people need to be in the mood. The acts and the atmosphere suffered. I've never really got Milton Jones so didn't go with high expectations and they weren't reached.
