Ealing update

Sorry long time Ealing Resident but it annoys me when forumites ask basic Ealing questions yet arent aware what is going on in Ealingsorry not ranting or raving like Marie :)Recent question that annoyed me was what is happenign to Townhouse, eventually someoen finally said Metro BankMore updates, the High street which is the road down Marks & Spencers, will have large improvments to mak it more pleasing, better streetscape, lighting etc.Also at one of these sites a WagaMama is planned to open.. On Bond Street you woudl have seen a new hotel (www.hotelxanadu.com) with a hotel bar (koobla bar)

Yep!Not delivered on Boston Road but all the roads off it semingly get a freebie.

So some parts of the borough are getting the Gazette for free while others have to pay?

Around my area and in most parts of Ealing it is now delivered free of charge on our doorstep although it is still available to buy in newsagents. However some shops, mainly estate agents, you can pick them up for free even in those areas where it is not delivered for free at the doorsteps.

If you mean the public notices that are in the local newspapers well not everyone buys them actually.

This is why we read the forum to find out what is going on in the area.Those who work in Planning don't necessarily publish the news about new developments, it is mostly on the forum that people can find out this information.

Charles, Yes you are right. There are some developments in central Ealing which are potentially of value to Ealing residents. So who might publicise this? Ealing Council perhaps? Well...no actually... you won't find this information on its web site home page, or anywhere else there for that matter.On the Uxbridge Road the old TVU/BT building has been demolished and in it place will be built expensive for-sale flats (up to 21 storeys) and a 4 Star hotel. This may not gain the attention of those without jobs; those disabled on Housing Benefit; those with good jobs who can't afford a mortgage; or those with good jobs who the mostly impoverished banks won't give a mortgage to.  Soon - like a Pheonix rising from the ashes - a new 20 screen cinema will be built behind  the skaffolding supported pillars of the old Cannon cinema opposite the Town Hall. That's where the 'designer' restaurants will be located also. Well that is what Empire Cinema is saying but not everyone believes them.Tourist buses are now bussing around the new Premier Inn hotel on the Uxbridge Road. The unplanned eruption of hotels in central Ealing (zero hotel rooms in 2010 - 470 in 2013) is giving our local profesional planners a bad name. However, to be fair, no-one could have foreseen the potential salvation of Ealing centre as a tourist destination!

Are we meant to be psychic and just KNOW the Town House is being turned into flats and Metro Bank?  Obviously the information needs to be spread around for people to know and guess what the local forum may just be the place for this information about the local area to be passed around.The High Street isn't too bad what a shame nothing seems to happen to Uxbridge Road.
