getting street trees trimmed back

Anyone know how to get this done we have two large over grown trees that are now over hanging a public footpath next to our house I have spoken council they seemed to have done nothing about this even though just today after a few branches had fallen a lady on mobility scooter couldn't get passed until I had moved them for her any ideas anyone

"Trees can also be lovely and are part of a bigger picture "And need careful planting in urban environments with routine maintenance, not hacking by an amateur tree surgeon.Too close to a property and the 'wrong type' of tree will cause foundation damage; equally removing an established tree can cause 'heave' when the water it took up simply soaks into he substrate.

Trees can also be lovely and are part of a bigger picture.  Please don't all turn on trees now!  I agree that you can expect the Council to look after their trees and the increasing attempt to manage things by computerised lists and desk sitting of employees in routines means that they do not 'see' what is happening and where more urgent maintenance is required.

Re  any further damage to the property         xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx    Marie, may I suggest you write to the Council, keeping a copy of course, saying you hold them responsible for any damage, especially subsidence to your property. Trees are very nice, but can cause problems, especially in dry weather conditions by sucking out the water in the ground, which will cause damage to any constructions nearby, especially their foundations  and be expensive to put right.

I have an overgrown tree in front of my house which has not been trimmed for at least 12 years. We have spoken and written to the Council without anything being done. Yesterday I rang Roger Jones who heads up the environment department to complain and a surveyeor called me back. They won't come out and view the tree (staffing issues) but were able to tell me that trees in my area are due for inspection during this financial year and that my complaint is logged. I am planning to write to Mr. Jones pointing out that any further damage to the property beside the tree will be the Council's responsibility as we have done everything we can to inform them that the tree is overgrown. Have a go youself.

If they are your trees overhanging the sreet, it's your responsibility to prune them else the council may well do it and send you a sizeable bill.If they are council trees see:http://www.ealing.gov.uk/a_to_z/service/267/trees
