New Controlled Parking Zone in Northfields

Hi allI happen to live in one of the streets where I will need a Parking Permit to park on my street from 1st July.  I do not agree with this in principle but so be it.  I have just received mine and my husbands permit in the post, but there was no holder with it - (like the one you use for your tax disc).I called the council department who sent the permit and was told I could CELLOTAPE it to my windscreen as they don't supply holders any more!!!!!!!  Fantastic.  We have to pay to park in our street and also now have to buy the holder for the blinking permit!!!  Councils - don't you just love em!

CPZs have been around since the 70s, at least. There must have been a point when residents asked for restricted parking as too many commuters were taking up the spaces, but it's now reached the point where we soon won't be able to park anywhere, except in our own CPZs.

Looks like Kingsdown Ave's got it, but not sure of the other roads east of Northfield Ave.All CPZ's are money making schemes and Ealing's is a particular fleece. You'll be paying money not to be able to park near your house when you used to be able to do so for free. Shop workers will be forced to park in the few remaining roads without a CPZ, prompting residents in those roads to petition the Council to have a CPZ. I'd scrap the lot of them and start again with a system where anyone can park wherever they like, provided they pay for the privilege and residents get free parking in their local area (with a reasonable admin charge).

Oh for goodness sake you can buy a good disc holder from any motor accessories shop for about a nicker.Have the Government DVLA ever provided a free holder for your road tax/ vehicle excise duty disc? - so why expect local councils to do so for parking permits? - alternatively, in fairness, why not have a similar public rant against the Westminster Government?

Re  where will the new parking zones be?          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  all over by the time the Council have finished, and the annual cost will go up in very high percentage increases. Mine in W5 went up by 66% in one go.

Yup! But like I said i try to think of it as safegaurding a very few parking places around for the residents. Thinking of it the other way would wind me up.... :O)

Bud - It was only free to park there in as much as you can park anywhere on the Queens highway, subject to yellow lines, no stopping zones etc. Whether he owned a property on that road has nothing to do with it. Having said that i suppose the coucil must have the right to introduce parking restrictions on busy roads if they see fit, its pretty standard so i guess it must be legal...? :O)

Edobbo,Sorry, let me make sure I understand this correctly - you move into a property, on a road in Northfields where it was free to park. Now you are being made to get a permit and pay to park outside your home ?Is that correct ?If so, surely this is illegal ? How can they be allowed to change the rules that way ? Or am I being severely naive ?

Hmm I prefer to think of this as paying to stop other people blocking residents roads. Surprised they brought it in for Northfields though...

You can write to Cllr Bassam Mahfouz who has tripled the cost and cut the service. And according to the Council this is a "service"
