Shameful state of Walpole Park

I've got used to Lammas Park being the slightly neglected and rather plain sister to Walpole Park, It's been like that for at least the last 45 years, maybe more.But a walk aroung Walpole Park on a rare nice day this week was a shocker.What a tip!Dirty, tatty, litter strewn, unkempt dogs faeces, human faeces, vomit, condoms, more litter,Weeds10 - Grass 2 and the once lovely rest gardens.What the heck has happened?  How has it gotten like this is such a short time?And this is to host the Olympic torch in a few weeks?What a shameful and total disgrace the eyes of the nation are going to see.

I am not sure that even £30 million can make slow growing shade-tolerant shrubs like Ruscus  which used to grow widely in Ealing's parks grow any faster regardless of what Labour do. The council (both Labour and Conservative) have spent the last ten to fifteen years pruning everything with chainsaws to the point of destroying it, not to mention grubbing up every rose that they can find.

It is the same more or less in other parks. However, don't worry as everything is going to be made spick and span by the time of the next elections as Ealing Labour group will have, by then,  accomulated over  £30M of underspend in the coffer - surelly the Southall car park won't be that expensive??? - just to revert back to normal soon after the elections. Would they ever change?

It is not only Walpole Park that is untidy I visited the Bunny Park in Churchfields yesterday afternoon with my 3 year old grandaughter the grass in the playground is at least 18 inches high I thought I was going to lose her in it also in the animal encloser it is overgrown with stinging nettles and long grass everywhere I have never see it as bad as this in the 40 years I have been visiting it

Why are you surprised by the state of our parks? First the council has cut the number of park rangers and then have given the mantainance contract to Enterprise - the same company that collects (or not) our rubbish. Your local councillors have no longer a voice - yes they can complaint and ask to address the situation but are they going to be heard? The only way is to send an email to the portfolio holder, which I believe is no other that Cllr Mahfouz. Yes the same guy that has the power and is supposed to have control over our street cleaning, road maintenance, parking, refuse and waste. With so many 'responsibilities' no wonder he cannot keep a tab on everything but, you never know, perhaps he may even read your email and, hopefully, decide to do something about it.

A makeover of £5,400,000 might even gold-plate the grass as once suggested by Cllr Young when more Section 106 funding was being targeted at this patch. Like Eric I struggle to comprehend this enormous outlay of public funds (see his latest post on fountains in Walpole Park). With all the hurt going on around maybe a Citizens Advice Bureau or more Law Centres might be a better way of spending limited public funds.

I walked around Walpole Park today and I didn't find it in a shameful state - except for the fountains reverting back to their early 2011 state and not functioning at all.

It certainly doesn't do for the dog faeces to be left in an unkempt state. Perhaps dog owners should be forced to mould it into pretty shapes and straight lines.

Aren't the parks now looked after by Enterprise - our wonderful new rubbish collection company?  If so, I'm not surprised the park was in a shameful state.
