Bike thefts in Ealing shopping centre

Thieves are stealing expensive bikes in Ealing shopping centre - they are taking bikes which are securely locked and parked in broad daylight in busy areas with CCTV. The thefts are carried out in a matter of minutes. On Fri 25 May my 500 pound Specialised Ariel hybrid women's bike, which is black and white, was taken from the bike park outside Nando's restaurant on Bond St between 2-2.15pm. At 3.55pm someone else's 1,600 pound electric Gocycle white bike was taken from Springbridge Rd, near TK Maxx - again, it only took a matter of minutes and the locks/CCTV/numerous passers-by clearly didn't deter the thieves. And if you have an expensive bike don't risk leaving it parked in Ealing, even for five minutes!

Several of my friends don't own bike locks these days. It just means they do not take their bikes anywhere they can't store them inside, out of view. Almost no amount of portable security will protect you from well-equipped, professional bike thieves.

not surprising there are these brazen thefts when the police do absolutely zilch to prevent bike thefts or tackle the businesses (quite a few to choose from in west ealing) who sell stolen goods.

One wonders whether the new bike sheds being built on Haven Green across the road from Ealing Broadway Station will offer any greater protection from bike theives. If not, this increased concentration of bikes will possibly attract even more thieving.
