Rubiks Restaurant Northfields

Just noticed that what was Abadan is now open as a Rubik's restaurant.  Anyone tried it yet ?

We tried it a few weeks ago and have to say it was nothing special. The pizzas at Momento are far superior and we will continue to support this little gem.

I agree with Tracy and Orr. Rarely eat pizza or Italian, but our pizzas were fresh with crispy crust and there was lots of garlic, which made me very happy. Also, all the red wine was absolutely DIRE when the place was previously Italian, now it's quite acceptable. Like the decor. Didn't visit the loos.

We have been several times over the last few weeks - the service and food are excellent and the portions generous. The interior of the restaurant is well looked after too and the bathrooms always very clean. The quality of the dishes is consistently high and it is also a great place to take children as the kids menu is great value.

If you google Rubiks restaurant twickenham you will see that it's a second venture for a successful italian restaurant, it's a joint venture between the owner of Abadan and Rubik (no it's not an eastern European name lol) nothing to do with previous Italian restaurant, I tried a pizza the other day, and was very pleased with it right down to the freshly homemade base.

Do we know if these are the same folk who ran the restaurant before when it was pizza pasta? If so, then Momento do not have anything to worry about.

Of course anyone wishes any new venture well in these recessionary times but Abadan always did well in my recollection, was sorry to see it go. The quoted 2-course menu £8.95 all day seems pricier than what that incarnation of the place served up, certainly in the daytime. The lunch deal was £3.99.

I think this new incarnation is doomed to fail. It seems they haven't changed any of the uninspiring decor, they've got an Eastern European-sounding name, a Persian-looking sign (having replaced only half of the old one) and an Italian menu. Their pricing already has a whiff of unreasuring inexpensiveness about it ("2-course menu £8.95 all day"). I really do want them to be successful, and I will certainly (as a local) give them a try, but the signs aren't promising.
