Tube works near Ealing Common

For around the last month or so, TFL have decided that the track between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway needs work. This work has been taking place in evenings and gets particularly loud on bank holiday weekends. I live alongside the tube line, right opposite Ealing Common station (as I am sitting here at 12.30 at night, there is currently 7 workers and a JCB around 50 yards from my ground floor bedroom window) The workers seem to have no concept of the fact it's late at night, and are shouting loudly to one another. Things were even worse this morning at 5.45am (on a Saturday) when they were out there with a chainsaw of some kind - Not the nicest thing to wake up to when you're looking forward to a lie in after a week of work!I understand that works on the tube line need to be done, but doing them at such unsocial hours is completely unfair. I'm getting very little sleep because of it, and can only imagine what a nightmare it must be for couples nearby with children. Surely it must be breaking some sort of environmental law regarding noise pollution?I was wondering if anyone else is being effected by these works in the same way? I have taken photos and been making notes of the antisocial times work has been carried out. If you have taken any action against it, please let me know. I am going to try and compile a list of residents that have been effected, as I feel that several names should get my complaint further than just mine.Thanks,Andrew

You can't have your cake and eat it. Houses here only exist because of the railway. People pay a premium to live near a station and it is the lifeline for the vast majority of inhabitants.The work has to be done to enable the railway to carry out its function as a public service.Works have to be and always have been done at night and most of the time no-one notices.But this is major works which when completed will not occur again for many many years. It is noisy but no-where near as noisy as it could be or would have been. Take a close look for an hour or so at how these people do the job, they work against all the odds to a near impossible deadline and yet manage it safely with the minimum of disruption. Unlike road works.

I struggle to sympathise here - if you're going to locate yourself next to a tube line, you must expect that at some point in time, you're going to suffer some sort of noise nuisance. Especially by Ealing Common station where there is a major depot and a mass of track and goings on. There's only a small window in which to do work on the track and unfortunately, this window is at night.

We had letters warning us about night time and weekend works. There was a contact phone number, I believe, but I threw the letter away. I can't imagine the noise you're suffering, but I have heard major drilling in the night in past months / years but, having had a letter, I felt the necessary notice was given. They need to do this work at nigh t

I empathise with you.The real problem is, I guess, that the majority of works have to take place in 'unsocial' hours to minimise the impact on the tube network.It may be worth a call to TfL simply to register your concerns.
