Is the PM a Conservative?

A little article in yesterday's paper reads:Actress Helena Bonham Carter - the bohemian great grandaughter of Liberal PM Herbert Asquith - will chill the Tory right with this verdict on her friend David Cameron. 'He's not that Conservative, actually' says Helen. I mean he's not a right-wing person. If he was in America, he'd probably be a Democrat. And he's got a hilarious sence of humour.' With the way the Coalition is going, he will need it.Makes one wonder!!!

re  The euro is the key issue and has stuffed any chance of a recovery here          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  which is why I took favour of what I read recently re leaving the EU and concentrating on rebuilding the Commonwealth trade links, countries which have a future, including it seems now many in Africa. And America, ie the English speaking countries, sure Winnie would be well in favour. And be able to leave the blessed Human Rights laws well alone.

The crucial issue is not so much socialism or not as the case might be but the blindness of politicians to the damage that the euro is doing to the economies of europe. the poor will all suffer as the medicine decided by the big banks certainly won't. austerity will lead to recession in the current economic circumstances. The euro is the key issue and has stuffed any chance of a recovery here. The Dutch and French elections are crucial in that sense.

Re  Socialist approach can improve the general quality of life in France.           xxxxxxxxxxxxx  probably would for a short while, but that's about all. The fact remains most European countries, including us, are bankrupt, due mainly to socialist  policies of giving too much  without having the money to fund  the welfare profligacy. Far Eastern countries and the other BRICs do not have that around their necks and until we  reduce ours drastically, we will diminish in importance, stature and influence in the world. As it is, we are only hanging on because of historical reasons. If France goes socialist, and with Holland gone, so will the Euro, then gawd help us all. The debt legacy this Govt. inherited is a headache  without parallel hitherto, certainly in peacetimes. Thank goodness we have our own currency still and hopefully will stand firm on debt reduction programme.

Yes Eric, that will be interesting, but more interesting is the French attitude towards the Euro and Germany. Will Hollande be more independant of the Euro. The Dutch election will be fascinating as their government has resigned. All these governments have been destabilised because of the euro crisis. Bliar would have taken us in. Whatever people say about Gordon Brown at leats he prevented that. Labour will only either gain power by default or by rediscovering who they are!!

Well being left of Tony Blair wouldn't be difficult. The Labour Party really started going down the drain when Blair and his croneys decided that the only way to get elected was to turn the Labour Party into a Conservative Party.If the Socialists actually get back into power in France it will be interesting to see if a Socialist approach can improve the general quality of life in France.
