Parking permit hike again

Whilst all the eyes are on the abysmal fiasco of refuse, I note from Ealing's website that parking permits have been increased again less than a year after the huge hike in fees.What the hell is going on?

The whole remit for the CPZs from zone C on was that they were to be a not for profit benefit for residents in areas badly affected by non resident parking.It was only with these assurances that a small minority agreed in the consultations overseen by a Mr. Metzger. I still have the documents from some of those meetings.It is also in the deal that residents can at any time after a two year bedding in period have the right to revue and alter or discontinue a CPZ.If this is the road this or subsequent councils want to take and start ripping off residents then these rights will be invoked.At the very least, all residents of 10 years or more and over 75 should have free parking permits and free visitor books. As they should free garden waste.And that is what the subsidy of windfall cash from CPZs is supposed to provide per zone

Re  Blame them! and get Boris out!               xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx    so I suppose Boris was  the reason why Labour increased local rates a few years  back by 27%  in one jump. Labour are prolific spenders, always have been, are and always will be. We cannot afford them, we need a firm hand on the purse strings.

At the Council offices there are car parks,who uses them and what do they pay per day from a pre-agreed salary.

Simon,if this administration was so strapped for cash, as you are suggesting due to the cut in grants from central government, how then do you account for the 9.5 Millions planned underspend from last year and yet another M9+ of planned underspend in this financial year? By the way, they have themselves admitted last year that the actual and factual saving/cuts needed to balance their books was not M85 but just over £50M. The other £30M or so that they want to raise is in order to finance their 'pet' projects. Hence the rise in parking permit charges, the £40 charge to collect our garden waste and so on at the expence of cutting valuable services to Ealing's most vulnerable residents.And can you explain to me what has Boris got to do with the way Ealing council organises its finances?

Do not Blame Boris. I voted Labour however some of the choices made such as prioritising car parks in Southall over Day Centres for the disabled are shocking!! I will vote for Boris however in the mayor election as Ken has no regard for the public. His insulting attitude towards residents who live along the Uxbridge Road over the Tram so called consultation was appaling.

Michael,I am sorry that parking charges have gone up again.  They will go up next year too.  For four years the previous Conservative administration froze parking charges.  Labour will always prioritise the council, council staff and itself over residents so putting up charges for residents makes perfect sense to them.  The old vouchers are still valid.  Where they have years that do not cover the current year do not scratch out the year.

Re  What the hell is going on?        xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx      the answer is quite simple Michael, if they can't raise  local rates, they will increase income another way, and by persons they assess to have  " money "  ie cars. There was  a large % increase  in the annual parking permit last time, 66% to be precise. Rather a lot, but typical of Labour who love to  raise  taxes, have a history of it in National Govt. and Local. 66%  one year in Ealing and 27%  not too long ago. Labour love spending money, other peoples'. So keep Livingstone out unless you have deep pockets.

I just checked on the Ealing Website and notice that the fee for residents parking vouchers has also increased from 1st April from 50 to 60p!Now what happens when people have a book of parking vouchers, are they still valid?No information has been given to residents about this increase as far as I can see. Surely it should have been announced on the forum or elsewhere?
