Hosepipe ban

Information on the hosepipe ban ....is the L B of Ealing included or exempt at present,as it will be grave concern for gardeners for weeks to come,especially those entering Ealing in bloom competition.....plus other various uses....then there's the queues at filling stations for fuel....supposed long waits at airports this weekend and travel on roads..... putting cold pasties on my shopping list to avoid (vat).....oh oh what a start to 2012....update on information on hoseban...thanks

It's simply down to snides who will peep through the curtains, take a picture and shop them.Usually the same people who " don't want to get involved' when a local crisis occurs.Not so easy to do with moving vehicles.

Totally agree with you in this one, and there are just too many people who use their mobile phones while driving, makes me mad. Would they use them if they knew that would get a £1,000 fine? Would people wash their cars with a hose if they know that they would get a £60 fine? Or do they just carry on because they think no one is going to catch them?

In my opinion Thames Water are the worst offenders for wasting precious water. Try reporting a leak and see just how long they take to fix it!Question: Are they now going to fine themselves for wasting water?

I can choose not to use a mobile phone while driving and I do not and would not.I can neither choose my water company nor can I have any influence over the lacklustre approach to leaks while they, at the same time, impose a restriction on the use of something they are charging me for in advance!!!!!!

A reader's letter in my newspaper reads:The idiots who drive while using a mobile phone, endangering other drivers' lives, risk a fine of £60.If I wash my car using a hose, I risk a fine of £1,000.Who denies our justice system is flawed?

No, not Mogden but the outflow into the Thames at Isleworth when the infrastructure that Thames Water are supposedly maintaining fails and raw sewage flows into the Thames.Thames Water  one of seven water companies that imposed bans last Thursday, has lost an estimated 673 million litres each day in the 12 months ending March 31. that's enough to fill the Olympic pool almost 300 times EVERY DAY or almost 100 litres for every Londoner.Thames Water is by far the worst offender in the country in terms of leakages, according to figures collated by industry regulator Ofwat and almost 50% worse that the next company in the 'table of shame'.When they fix the leaks I'll listen to their twaddle about Hippos in my loo!

Are you referring to Mogden?In no way do I defend Thames Water's lack of investment in the things they should be investing in.In fact instead of just tweeting or phoning or emailing Thames Water when there is a leak I would put it on www.fixmystreet.com where it is nice and public.Whose idea was it anyway to play to sell off the water companies?  How have we allowed our water system to become so vulnerable to outside influence and control?I remember having to go out to the street to get water.  I've also lived where water is delivered by tanker as there is no fresh water on tap. I think we should be much more aware of how much we use and know how and be able to use less.

I'll happily do my bit to save water when my water supplier fixes the damned leaks and stops polluting the water courses every time we have a shower.Thames water are an expensive joke and wouldn't survive five minutes in a compeitive market.

and do all that to know you will be handing  £££££s to shareholders of Thames Water.Who  do the minumum to stop leaks and sold off land and infra structure that was for reserve supplies which is why so much water is wasted.It would be nice to think that saving and using water sparingly would be (and is) the right thing to do were it not for the fact that every gallon you save, 45 go straight in to the river everytime it rains for more than an hour

What about looking at the ways in which you waste water?  You don't?  Look again I bet there is something else you could do.Get the kids to do an audit this holiday of how much the family uses and how much they could save. They will have to investigate how other people live.How about sharing a flush?What would be the best way to do this?Don't just look at ways to avoid the ban.  Look at ways you could use less water as well.  Look at the websites for inspiration.  Make an adjustment to your lifestyle!

A way around this problem is to have a barrel under your tap. Fill the barrel from the tap. Then attach a hose to the barrel and water using that. The hosepipe ban only applies to a hosepipe directly atached to a mains water tap.

The hosepipe ban applies here and is now in force. But look on the bright side, you are free to eat your own grass cuttings.
