Filth of South Ealing Shopkeepers

You would think that the most pleased of folk with the smart new paving along South Ealing Road would be the shopkeepers,But A walk up from Murray Road to South Ealing Station today shows that could not be further from reality.More than a few sections of nice new paving is filthy dirty, sticky and disgusting as it ever was.The evidence is there for all to see. Food vendors obviously wash out their premises and stop at their doorways. The result is all the dirt and residue all over the pavements.I cannot understand the mentality of these businesses, such slovenly presentation reflects so badly on them that it must also damage their businesses. So many shops, cafes and food outlets in particular will happily trade with dog turds and vomit outside the shops.It should be a prerequisite to the lease that all traders keep the frontage as far as the kerb clean.Shops always used to do this whether it was a food store or a hardware shop.This must surely be an environmental health issue?

It's not clutter or litter it's the staining of the new slabs from grease and dirt washed out from shop floors namely food outlets. So it makes the footpaths sticky and dirty. All they have to do is rinse to the kerb and keep the area in front of the shop clean as well. Which is what all shopkeepers used to do.Simple pride

meanwhile, back on topic......I have just returned from a wander up South Ealing Road... apart from the usual odd stain and spillage one would expect from a public thoroughfare, I saw bird droppings (n ones fault) and 'jumble' dumped by the 'indigenous population' (i.e. flytipping), I saw no rubbish, no dog mess at all, even a mere three cigarette ends (yes, I looked and counted).What exactly are people up in arms about with S. Ealing Rd?

Re  that we are now full.          xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  Yes, agree with that but  the powers  that be,  plan for or will supposedly allow at least another 5 million, most if not all of whom would be in England, ie not Scotland should little Eck get HIS way, and no doubt, most in the south where already there are problems even with lack of water.

Re  how many people are still coming here and have always.          xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Keith, if I may make so bold, we must remember those to whom you refer were not welcomed and were fought against physically and in other ways. They were invaders and of the same continent as  our forebearers  but who made every effort to eject the  incomers. That we have invaded other countries was in a different time and when morals were not as now, and what was seen as acceptable then would not be now, despite the fact by and large we were a force for good.

So what is indigenous?I do agree to a certain extent about customs.  However just look at the awful TV programmes we have Dog eat Dog and the Weakest Link.  Most of our politicians seem to have been milking the system one way or another.  It's been Me Me Me so why do we think we are special?

It makes me laugh when someone says we are all incomers to this island.How far do you want to go back. My ancestors are Norsemen and came to this country almost 1200 yrs ago. Am I an 'incomer'?  A recent survey has identified that Viking and Norse dna are the most prevalent in England.Every country,and surely moreso those with land borders with other countries,have 'incomers' over the centuries so why do you think we should say we are all 'incomers'.A line has to be drawn somewhere and the argument you put up is a little self defeating imo as it highlights just how many people are still coming here and have always.

Who Do You Think You Are? is a brilliant programme.  You'd be surprised at people's roots.  Most of us probably have forebears from somewhere else.  Have you checked on yours? One of mine came over with William the Conqueror.

OK.... Again..... .Ealing Council needs to start the ball rolling with the well known illegal issues eg sheds and deal with  the overflowing tacky shops and stalls spilling out across our pavements.  If any of us mere mortals dare to voice our objections we are immediately branded as racists when we are Only being realists who want our towns to be restored to us in a clean and pleasant state....so...over to Ealing Council...

it is not up to anyone on these Forums to do it but those in authority, the Local Council well and truly aided by the local Member of Parliament who should be campaigning in the House and everywhere to get rid of these shanty constructions. That he is not, raises questions but there is no reason why the Local Authority cannot demand these constructions be removed as they do with other unauthorised constructions, amendments and extensions etc.=-------------------The constructions are probably for the other thread and the illegal ones should be dealt with, but Marie referred to the "shanty town culture". What can be done about that? What are those in authority not doing? If it is a "culture" that is so abhorrent and there is no illegality, it is not down to those in authority to do anything. So what can be done? Unless people (including those that frequent these boards) actively do something, then there will be no change. So what action should be taken? Or should we all just sit around and moan about it on the internet?

Whatever moneyf is spent will make no difference since in no time the area will revert back to it's present state. The shanty town culture has spread out around the surrounding area eg. "TakInG over" comes to mind and should be stopped------------------------------Shopkeepers?The shops in South Ealing have refuse bins at the back and should be used. Anything placed at the front should be reported, whether that be from the shopkeepers or the residents above the shops

Marie!Excellent point!!!! Unfortunately about a third of the pavement in front of most shops is actually owned by the shop keepers. The council paves it free because it would be a slum otherwise. The only way to sort this is compulsory purchase!Eric.

I don't mind the diversity, but there really is no excuse for dirt and sloppyness and no pride in ones premises and surroundings.When the council/taxpayers shell out for stuff to be renewed to see it trashed within weeks is appalling. Whoever is responsible, there can be no excuse.

In 5 years time my belief is Hanwell and West Ealing at least will mirror Southall, which is on the spread and which may well gather pace. I walked through Deans Garden small park lateish yesterday afternoon, real eye opener and portent.

I'm afraid that I have done that for many years but I don't know if it's a cultural thing, lazyness, or what but it just does not seem to  register with them. The trouble is this starts with one or two places and seems to spread with the " They don't, so why should I ? " attitude.Can't understand it.

Vote with your feet and don't give them your patronage. Else, tell them that 'you would have shopped there, if only the pavement outside their store wasn't so dirty!'.
