What a load of rubbish!

I thought this would grab your attention!With the Olympics event happening in London in a few months time and visitors from all over the world expected to visit where has our sense of pride gone?Has anyone noticed just how much rubbish is thrown out of cars along motorways? everything from cans, wrappers, food, cigarette buts and so on. Have people no national or civic pride in this country? Where did it all go wrong?Our stations are covered in Graffiti, people spit where they like, dogs allowed to poo but owners don't want to clear up the mess. rubbish dumped around our streets for someone else to remove - sofas, TV sets, you could furnish a home by collecting allthe stuff that is thrown away!Do schools no longer teach children that they should put their food packages, crisp bags and so on in a BIN? Who would dare tell them to pick up their rubbish?The situation will continue to get worse unless something is done about it. I rarely hear of people being fined for dumping rubbish, perhaps it is time to act!We shall soon see bags of discarded garden rubbish in these streets once the new system starts next month.What do others think? Can anything be done to turn back the clock and make people proud of their surroundings?

Re  TB is on the rise in a number of areas               xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx  I think you will find Ealing has the highest rate of TB in the country and higher than most 3rd world countries, the reason for which is acknowledged. Goodness knows what effect the shanty town ingress will have on the already bad situation. And to answer Jean's questions, much of London including Ealing is taking on the appearance of a third world country. Do we know why, what has changed?

I will not be paying the garden refuse charge either. The old system was working perfectly well and I can see no reason for introducing a charge unless it is to raise money for the Council.Fortunately I have very little garden waste nowadays, just the occasional trip to the dump will do. As far as I am aware this is still free!I am certain that this area will see an increase in garden waste being dumped in the streets once the new scheme is intruduced!

People spitting in the streets literally makes me feel sick.  I have on occasions been known to call someone disgusting or filthy when I've seen them doing it,but I doubt it makes a scrap of difference.  They should be fined on the spot. We live in a society where many people have different cultures and it appears that spitting in the streets is not considered offensive or a health hazard.  I think people learn by example and if children see their parents dropping litter or spitting they will follow suit.  The garden refuse charge is counter productive and the Council will spend more money than it generates clearing up all the dumped rubbish and I for one will not be paying it on principle. I think I will have to get the old incinerator out of the shed. Would be interesting to know how many people on this forum have decided to pay the charge because it's too much hassle to take it to the local tip.

Yes. For a start start fining those who spit in the street, disgusting and the by-laws were introduced to prevent a rise in TB.  TB is on the rise in a number of areas particularly where Qatt is chewed and, guess what, the 'chewers' often spit it into the street - Disgusting.I also agree that the garden rubbish 'dumping' will go up from next week when the charges are introduced - so short sighted.
