Look, West Ealing nor Hanwell are the most cutting - edge of places in London, but it is a local town centre to many of us. Below are my list of businesses that do provide a great service. They are listed in no particular order, and I have no interest in any of them. WEST EALING:Express Print (Cross Eccleston Road at Arnold's Sports Shop and it is the second or third shop going towards Hanwell) Good quality printing at v. competitive prices.Arnold's Sport Shop - aren't we LUCKY to have an independent sports shop on our doorstep? Staff are committed and they even have their own loyalty card! Plus they send you a discount voucher for your birthday if you sign up for their 'Gold' loyalty card. Top customer serviceHolland & Barrett - staff really do know their onions on all their products and their advice is given in a friendly, professional and knowledgeable way.Farmers' Market - Leeland Road every Saturday. Fantastic produce direct from the farm at prices that can be a lot cheaper than you would pay in the Supermarket. The Post Office in Leeland Road and opposite the yucky Tesco Express - My God aren't we LUCKY to have TWO local post offices where we can go and queues can be minimal.Costa Coffee - half-decent coffee, comfy chairs and they have a stack of daily newspapers to read.Lloyds Bank, W. Ealing - deserves a mention because they are such nice smiley people who actually remember their customers. HANWELLThere Cycling (Boston Manor Road opposite Wickes) - It is a little gem of a shop stocking beautiful bikes and unusual stylish accessories. Recommend it to anyone fed up with the likes of Halfords and Evans etc. Will do a decent service for you too if you need it.The Golden Chip (Boston Manor Road) - what a chippy! And the queues on a Friday (or should that be Fry-day) night prove it. Fish cooked to perfection as are their chips. Will cook to order if you want to wait. They have just opened a Baker's next door that sells great bread. Worth going to.The Horseshoe Cafe - (Boston Manor Road, opposite Nissan). Good fry-up, and I believe they're now open in the evenings. The Fox Pub - everybody knows about The Fox and if you don't get down there for a great pint, good atmosphere and some great grub (Green Lane / St. Margaret's Road) you are missing out..Cafe Gold - nice comfy seats and all the papers. Nice place to relax.Plaza Pianos - Pianos, pianos and more pianos. How many town centres have a piano dealer and Rolls Royce dealer in a High Street?Rolls Royce Dealer - I am told they are one of the largest dealers in the country - and it's right in the heart of Hanwell! Incredible!Bawarchi - Indian restaurant / take-away: huge portions of good food, great service at cheap prices. (Right next to the bus stop, just past Lidl, if you are travelling towards Southall)  The Post Office - for the same reasons that I like the Post Offices in West EalingSo, come on..West Ealing and Hanwell are lucky to have some great retailers who really do try to serve. Let's support them instead of knocking the area.

What makes a shopping area “good”?  Is it overpriced boutique like shops that sell very little and disappear within months of opening?  Is it sarnie shops with a French name that makes it great?  It’s just a sandwich “at the end of the day”.West Ealing does have a few pound shops and also some empty shops, what high street doesn’t?  But there seems to be activity.  Adams Kids which was in receivership for ages (as was Peacocks), now shows signs of being fitted out for something. When I walk down West Ealing way, I seem to manage to get whatever I need, butchers, fish mongers, supermarkets, farmers market, all kinds of domestic, foreign and exotic fruit and veg.  Decent selection of wine from the supermarkets or the wine warehouse.  If I need a new phone, can get that too, birthday cards, Post Ofice(s), my computer repaired, plus, can get my hair done, go to the bank and if I want to give my man a special treat, I can always pop into Cherry Pye.I’ve never been offered drugs or had any problem with muggers, nor do I see ladies on corners or cards in phoneboxes.Sometimes I chat to the shop keepers who seem quite friendly, much more so than those around my offices in Central London.  The pubs, bars and food places seem lively, varied and good value. All of this happens in an area ethnically diverse, people seem to come from all over the world to live in West Ealing.  I was in Northfields Avenue earlier today, it looked liked potshots had been taken at a Carpet Shops window? Now that's something I haven't seen in W13.
