Academies

Is anyone worried that their child's primary school maybe forced to become an academy? Or has it happened already?

I don't know about the national picture but locally there is a strong correlation between better results and not being under the direct control of the local authority. As far as I'm aware all state schools have to adhere to the national curriculum.Most of the reports that I have read about academies show that they have been set up by charities not businesses.Which schools locally are being told to become academies?

There is no evidence that schools perform better outside local authority control. The local authority does not 'control' schools now, the National curriculum is 'National.' Academies are businesses that get their funding from Central government, and they will be able to set their own agenda, and schools are not choosing to become academies they are being told to become academies.

Don't think this is the sort of thing most parents concern themselves with that much. It is usually politicians and people working at the LEA who get worked up about it. If pushed I would imagine most people who were happy with their children's school would prefer things to remain as they are whereas if the school was struggling they would be happy to see change as, certainly locally schools have tended to perform better outside local authority control.
