As the local councillor, I will try and shed some light on what has happened. There have been problems with parking in the Draytons for years. Over the years there have been a number of consultations. About a year ago residents were consulted again and on this occasion decided that they would have a controlled parking zone. At the same time roads outside the Draytons were asked whether, in the event that the Draytons voted yes, they would also like to be included in the zone. All the roads in the outer zone voted no. In Lynton Avenue, 63% voted against inclusion. When the Draytons zone was being designed it was realised that one side of Manor Rd and part of Drayton Green did not have houses and no one would park there. Rather than have long empty stretches, it was decided to make the bays dual use so that both residents and commuters could use them. It was hoped that there would be less parking displaced from the Draytons in adjoining roads like Lynton Avenue. This is the first time that dual use bays like this have been set in the borough. It will take a time for things to settle down and to find out whether this experiment has worked.
