pest control tips

hi there,we seem to have an invasion of large, black flies in our living room....there must be a nest of something somewhere, as they keep coming in at the same point.Does anyone have any recommendations for a good local pest control please?thanks

Funny that I think chameleons are beautiful and the way they catch flies fascinating!  Spiders wrapping their dinner up and hanging it in the web until later is also pretty amazing together with some of their food trapping techniques.Of course I am not suggesting that anyone should fly a chameleon over. Just suggesting a little thought and restraint before a massacre of all living things.Did you see/hear the news item about spider's silk being made into violin strings a couple of days ago?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-17232058

Er thanks but I do know what a Chameleon is and looks like!They are ugly.I don't think they are common in Ealing, so am worried about the carbon footprint involved in flying one over from wherever they live.  There are many more more spiders.

Yes, but have you considered that if you zap the spiders there won't be any left to zap the flies?When we were abroad we had a chameleon to do it for us...  Here is a video of one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aX_obrDPJA

You can get sticky paper fly traps.Don't ever leave food and food waste uncovered. Also check there is no water leak.

thanks for all the advice and tips....will leave it a little while and see what becomes of them.....and if the infestation continues/gets worse, ill call the recommended people.....or buy one of those zappers!thanks

Agree.  I don't see the point in a knee-jerk reaction in just killing the flies. You need to work out what is attracting them.

Dead rodent under the floor?Flies will typically stop coming of their own accord once they have "hollowed out" said carrion.It takes about three weeks.With luck, there will be no associated smell.

In the short term, I think Poundland sells an electric tennis racket which zaps all kinds of bugs including spiders with a very satisfying zap and sparks.  Its great fun, but maybe I'm not allowed to say that....

I have used ARREST A PEST in the past - to clear a wasps nest - he dealt with it the same day and sorted out the problem - would recommend.
