New windows

We are planning to have some new windows fitted does anyone have any recommendations or otherwise ?  Thanks

Peerless Windows are good when it comes to getting the business but unfortunately not so good when it comes to rectifying matters!

I used Peerless in Northfields earlier last year and they did a fantastic job. At least four of my neighbours have also used them.They are more expensive than other out of town companies, but two years ago I booked and paid a deposit with a window company in Milton Keynes called 'Orchard Windows' who kept delaying the installation. It went on for so long that I had to report them to trading standards. I eventually got my money back but I received two bounced cheques along the way. Others weren't so lucky, so if you do use a company you don't know, make sure you don't give them too much money up front. Even though Peerless were more expensive, they are local. They rely on recommendations to get most of their work from other local people, so if they do a bad job their reputation is at stake.They did two windows in under 8 hours and finished it so well that all I had to do was hoover. I haven't even had to redecorate around the frames. Very efficient, friendly and reliable.

Keep it local - try Evershine in Hanwell 0208 561 8686 if its double glazing you're after.

i recently had windows replaced and had 5 quotes in total.As someone mentioned earlier it IS a minefield and they were v. quick to drop their prices as soon as you mention that you have other companies calling back with their quotes.My own experience told me to stay clear of the obvious names eg Anglia & Everest who quite frankly were shocking in their presentation (knocking their competitors before discussing the benefits of using their company).I had alot of positive feedback about Peerless in Northfields however they were quite expensive and over my budget.Finally i decided to use a company called Primary Windows nr. Watford, the man i dealt with another James was straightforward, direct no fancy "spiel" type of guy.You can find their details on the web.They took just 2 days and very happy with the work although the workmen could have been a little tidier after they finished the job.Good Luck!!

We got a couple of wooden, aluminium-fronted, sash windows for our loft conversion from Marvin Architectural, Brentford (www.marvin-architectural.co.uk) - a US company. Very good quality, slim profile, powder-coated aluminium facing means they never have to be painted. We also used Henry & Sons, Park Royal (http://henryandsons.co.uk), for doors and a window in an extension, and they seemed pretty good.

We used Peerless Windows (in Northfields Avenue) recently and we were very happy with them... they replaced patio doors and also a double glazed window... they are local to us... would recommend.

Some time ago we  used Capital Windows on three occasions over several years, not the cheapest as they are metal  framed, cannot stand the nasty wide sight lines of the plastic variety. They did a good job, but no idea if they are still trading.

Sound advice.The initial price is normally the "what can we get away with charging". In fairness to JK we got five quotes for our church hall windows, as a charity we have to show prudence and we are, in effect, spending donations, and they were by far the lowest by a significant margin. Guess that's why we had to wait a month for them to start (they fitted 17 windows in two days with no mess) while the others could 'do it next week!.

Remember, in the windows business no one ever pays list price. Best time to have windows down is in Summer 'coz no one thinks about the cold when it is warm. Also ask you nearby neighbours how much they paid and present that to Anglia, Peerless. All will arrive at pretty much the same price after some haggling. A 12K window-job list-price should come in less than 4K (I AN NOT JOKING). Use big companies and out-of-London companies (someone from Hampshire, for example, will happily come in and do your windows for much less than the EALING PRICE. Avoid "local" people like Allbright (quoted me a £100 for a £20 piece of glass once).Will.

JK Windows in Hounslow. They have done three jobs for me and a large job on our church hall and I could not fault them.As a check price, The Window Centre in Rayners Lane and Peerless in Northfields. Both very good companies but significantly more expensive.
