Anyone know of a local choir?

Hi there,I am looking for a local choir in the West London area and wondered if anyone could recommend one. Preferably one I wouldn’t have to audition for as I would just like to take part for leisure and meet some new people.Thanks,Laura

St Matthew's Church has a thriving choir. We put on 4 classical concerts a year with organ or orchestra and soloists. We are a friendly group, and there is no need to audition formally ... you can just turn up and sing with us for a few weeks to see if you like us! An informal audition may be required after a few weeks, but this would just mean singing in a small group some of the material we have just been rehearsing.Our concert was last Sunday, so we are just beginning to rehearse for our next concert in April. Rehearsals are on Thursday (i.e. tonight) at 7.30pm at the church on North Common Road.Let me know if you are interested.

You can try it out for a week or two and then there is a monthly subscription of £20 which goes towards music hire etc

Hi there Laura, I sing with St Matthew's Choir which rehearses on Thursday nights 7.30-9.30 at St Matthew's Church, North Common Road, W5 2QA (midway between Ealing Broadway station and Ealing Common station and on the 207 and 427 bus route). http://www.smce.org.uk/There's no audition, but you would need to be able to read music. It's £15 a term to join but you would be really welcome to come along and try a couple of sessions for free to see if it's for you. We usually perform big choral works - our next concert will be next week, when we will be performing Cherubini's Requiem and the Vivaldi Gloria. The concert's at the church at 7.30pm on Sunday November 13th, £10. After that we will get straight on with rehearsing the Byrd Mass for 5 voicesand Schubert Mass in G from Thursday 17th Nov.

Several come to mind:All Saints Church on Ealing Common is looking for new members and keenness is more important than musicity.Ealing Abbey has a choir, so does St Matthews Church (again on Ealing Common) as well as the Questors Theatre, though these are more seriously pretentious outfits requiring some auditions.W.M.
