What's Happened at Dean Gardens?

Came past the Lido about 10:00 am and the eastern part of the park was cordoned off with Police tape. There was a squad car in the park and a copper standing by. Anybody know anything?

Well,our experiences are obviously very different.I have lived outside England,albeit many years ago and have travelled quite extensively since.I have found that people abroad are quite different to the way they are at home and that native English(btw it was a BRITISH empire you rail against)are no more bigotted etc.than anyone else.On the contrary,we have a greater cultural and racial mix in this countryt than just about anywhere else and thge rights of immigrants are enshrined in law,which is not the case in many countries.Most people,the vast majority in fact,live side by side without too many problems.Not so in many countries.All countries that had empires,including the ones in Africa and Asia,treated their colonials badly,without exception.The British at least left democracy in every on of its handed back colonies and formed a commonwealth to offer some structure of support.We seem to love to beat ourselves up in this country without realising that all countries have their pros and cons.

Keith, Maybe, but I'm afraid you have it wrong also. I consider myself to be almost 100% English, if there is such a thing. My Welsh ancestry was many generations ago and is not something I was brought up to feel deep about. I have never lived outside England, which may contribute to my naïvety, however I have found the immigrants and tourists to be better behaved than my average fellow countryman. England's history, in Ireland, India, lots of Africa, the Caribbean, Diego Garcia and many other places shows exactly that we are anything but a tolerant, charming lot of civilised gentlefolk. Walter's naïvety is a product of this, our appalling education system, a country which regularly emerges near the bottom amongst Westernised nations in UN surveys of quality of life, socio-economic equality, best places to raise children etc.

You have it all wrong Andy.Walter has written a crass, daft reply,imo but it is you that is showing ignorance and bigotry.After all,because you as an individual seems to have a chip on his shoulder against the English,us English are tolerant enough not to attribute your highly unatractive trait to all Welshmen.Walter speaks only for himself,why attribute his niavety to his nationality?After all,we don't hold Harry Secombe,Max Boyce or Tom Jones against you.

I find you comments quite insulting. I do not find the English anymore ignorant or bigoted than any other nationality. In fact most English people I know are niether. What makes you so predjudice against the English? By the way I am not English.

Walter, Have you never heard of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley? Or how about Peter Sutcliffe ("The Yorkshire Ripper")? Your ignorance and your bigotry are exhibitions of your Englishness which is, in my experience, gladly lacking in people of other cultures.
