Former Daniels Site 24 Hour Gym

I have read that this gym is going to be allowed to operate 24 hours a day, probably 7 days a week. This is going to cause considerable extra traffic and local disruption. I live quite close to this site - how is it that I get notified about every minor local planning application nearby (house extensions etc.), but I have not had any consultation whatsoever about this? What are Ealing Council up to and who do they think they represent??

I take some comfort from that George. However we like to see new buildings occupied otherwise it leaves us feeling that some of these planners and commercial chaps get things wrong far too often. People we have no influence with or over. How long was Daniel's shop empty? My point still stands, that ward forums are too infrequent. Many items that should be discussed are done and dusted between meetings and therefore never meaningfully make it onto the agenda. Perhaps that is the cunning plan. Try fishing for sprats in a net with a mesh designed for salmon.

Someone recently said on the wireless that these clubs make their money through the membership, quoting members of 8000, but only some 800 attending - and not all to do exercises.It does seem to be a very ambitious project.

A resident raised this issue at the Walpole Ward Forum last night. It could be a problem for many in the surrounding area with cars coming and going through the night. It could be no problem. There has to be a better way to discuss this sort of item than the facilities that exist at present. Planning inform and consult 12 people??? Ward Forums only meet 3 times a year so only discuss this very briefly AFTER it has happened. With money short maybe it is time for ward councillors to be more active and reach out to the community to try to both inform, gauge and debate public reaction to these proposals BEFORE and not after they become reality.

Well I agree with that! I can't remember where I read this, but there is a sign in their window saying "Open 24 hours". I also understand that it will not be manned i.e. presumably key-card access with nobody on site - if true also quite worrying!

Hi Jim,  I don't know all the gyms and I guess those with cars would consider some nearby where others wouldn't, but here are some.  Gold's, Park Club, TheGymClinic, Ealing Squash and Fitness Club, EnergizeGyms, couple of Virgin Actives, Hooks Gym, G's Gym and as you say Eden. And then there is the bar at the Ealing Tennis Club. However, if this new gym is only charging £15+ a month with no contract, it just may do OK. But they will need a lot of members to pay for the upfront cost of the equipment.

Where did you read that?  Doesn't seem very economical to run a gym 24hrs/day especially since there are a lot of gyms around.
