Chiswick free.......Ealing £2 an hour.

No doubt its been mentioned before, but why are we paying for parking on a Sunday in Ealing town centre? Hardly going to encourage shoppers, especially given recent happenings.eg: I had to go to Clarks for kids shoes today,...do I pay a "surcharge" and go to Ealing? , or go to Chiswick and park free or Kew Retail Park and park free?

I'm not so sure. i don't see many people driving to either west or east Westfield.

The parking charges are leading people to change their behavior of shopping.It is convienent to shop on line in the comfort of your home. NOT supporting local businesses but making payments to companies who are not based in the UK, A double edge sword.Next time you see a deal online dig alittle deeper to find the seller.

It is all about a mix, bike friendly, bus/rail interchanges and good parking. The problem with ealing is that we have a strict anti car regime backed up by a lack of imagination in supporting the Bus/Rail/Tube interchange. The years wasted on the Tram controversy meant that Ealing has not moved forward in a constructive way and the current council are playing catch up. We need strategy. Better and safer Bike facilities at Ealing Broadway Station. A much improved station is essential. A strategy about how central ealing will be in 20 years is something we need and then we need to get it started. Ealing Broadway Station is a mess and something needs to be done. I use Public Transport a lot (commute) and also own a car. My station Hanwell is shut on a sunday and so Sunday tends to be my car day!! my car has little value and is cheap to run and is small. Chiswick has more interesting shops and also some lovely eating places. maybe the E3 at times, but other times the car if i will be carrying heavy stuff. encourage the mix and match rather than pro car or anti car. encourage people onto public transport or walking. we need more carrots rather than sticks.

Why not cycle to Chiswick? Definitely quicker than the E3 and keeps you fitter without wasting any money on gym membership that you will only use once!

Because they eat too much, travel too many places in a car and sit in front of a TV!  My 5 year old does tennis, rugby and Active kids sessions already. He is starting swimming lessons in the New Year.  I have a car but we walk, or get the bus if in and around Ealing.  I watch what he eats like a hawk and limit his time in front of the TV.  All of this take quite a lot of time and energy on my part, especially if I'm dragging him along the street for school in the mornings!

If you can't be bothered to walk to Ealing B'way, take the E3 to Chiswick. Drops you off anywhere on Northfields Avenue, going out and back.  We do it all the time. Remember children suffer the most from car pollution - but so do we all.  Incidents of asthma are highest in car-filled places. So leave yoour car. Better still - SELL your car and join CAR CLUB! saves lots of £££.

Ian,...certainly true from some parts of Northfields. I think from The Plough Pub,Northfields Ave,with two young children in tow, it might take a bit longer. A car sometimes makes shopping/kids/time constraints that bit easier,and thats something the council might like to consider on a Sunday!

Councils will go on about the need to cope with congestion and the needs of residents not being able to park. but this is a pure tax. simple as that. no doubt if more people realised that they can park for free in webster gardens on a sunday then the council would encourage the zones to extend. the residents in many of the roads have their own off street parking. but the council make money out of this pure and simple.

I tend to agree that I think we would encourage the local shops more and help all to recover and also KEEP as many shops as possible if ALL parking in Ealing was free on Sundays.

After trying Chiswick, I had to go to Ealing in the end, and I parked on Haven Green (£2/hr) with at least 3 traffic wardens floating around!.Thanks jaz its good to know about the centre car park. However, being in Northfields, a drive to the free parking streets of W4 appeal a bit more, for a leisurely wander round the shops on a Sunday.

Where did you park? It is £1 for the whole day on a Sunday in the centre car park. I was there today, paid a £1 and was there for nearly 2 hours.

You can park five minutes walk from the centre on Sundays on roads that are CPZ the other six days.

I assume you mean car parking ? Do you really need a car to buy shoes for children ?
