Hi Charlotte,Great idea! Funnily enough I was thinking along the same lines as you last night on my cycle back from Putney. I was even discussing the thought with the owner of Cafe Grove, in The Grove, on Wednesday night (who didn't get 'hit').My thought was that businesses could ask each customer to make a voluntary donation of 10p on top of their bill / purchase at the time of transaction. Very quickly, we (Ealing residents) could contribute a lot of dosh to pass on those who homes and businesses were affected by this mindless violence. However, how would this money get administered? And, another flaw to my idea would be that businesses would need to hold onto the money and then pass it on. Would every penny get passed on? We would be reliant on trust; although this would be the same for any fundraising event. Finally, Charlotte, using your idea or Mark's and Kimberley's idea, one would need to assemble a committee to assess each 'claim' and approve the claim and sum of money awarded. This will prove to be the hardest bit. How would that be done? Still, a great idea. Let's have some thoughts to answer some of my questions.
