My references to white and middle class were because of the statements made by sky news, saying that Ealing is predominately white http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEQlwnx9n5o&NR=1 I find it most upsetting. I have lived in Ealing W5 for 30 years, stop and search may not be a problem for young white teenagers in Ealing, but my children were regularly stopped and searched. I had to give them a leaflet on the procedure so that they could politely point out how the police were behaving towards them and ask the appropriate questions. They have even been stopped while out with white friends, who were not searched while they were, and their friends were shocked how blatant it was. Luckily they dealt with it and were able to moan at me about it and talk it through. Now they are older, it rarely happens as much. But for a number of years I worried when they went out, not only if other teenagers may start on them, but if the police would harass them.As for social housing, there are plenty is W5 , social housing does not have to be part of an estate, there are a number of properties on Windsor road, Oxford road, Madley road and Ealing Common, to name but a few. Ealing is a lovely. multi-cultural, socially and economically mixed area, which I love.
