Ealing Jazz Festival now on until Sunday 31st July

Yes Nigel there is happily more to life in Ealing than responding to your hypocritical, santimonious and factually erroneous posts. That's why I can't be bothered to respond to most of them.

Can't you buy some quite decent wine in plastic bottles (yuk) nowadays?I didn't pay for the beer so didn't notice the price.  I was surprised at being handed a glass of froth though.  I suppose usually it is allowed to settle before it is handed over.I thought the see-through bags for recycling were good but there were some unexplained things. One of the food places was using aluminium trays and these weren't mentioned on the recycling notices (well, I couldn't see mention.) I noticed that the recycling bins on the way out were full and really well sorted/separated.  However I also noticed a patch in front of the main tent where one party of dirty toe-rags had obviously just got up and walked away leaving all their detritus. Be bovvered!

NigelThank you. I sit corrected. You always could take your own drinks, including a bottle (or two) of wine to share AFAIR.So it isn't as bad as I thought and I apologise.

My son said a lot of his friends hadn't gone this year because of the price.  These are the 20 somethings.  I remember a political outcry when a charge was introduced.  I wonder how much it costs having a charge - wristbands, and selling them etc.I was disappointed not to see any banners advertising it as we drove out of Ealing towards Hanger Lane on the Sunday.

I will e-mail her."She read out a quote from the Marketing Department about the price increase"I fully accept the need to reduce the subsidy, so get some damned sponsors for 2012 (give them naming rights 'The Fullers Ealing Jazz Festival anyone?) This allows the Council reduce the prices, re-introduce season tickets, increase footfall and therefore revenues - it isn't bloody rocket science.  What we don't need is some functionary simply reading the marketing mantra or aren't they paid enough to have independent thought?

I have just spoken to Rachel Moir in the Arts and Events team. She did not believe that there was muffled sound, as Nigel wrote, since she has had no other complaints from any of the artists or other punters. Please do contact Rachel to let her know that it was not just me who was irriated about the vocals. I was right in the front of the South stage and could not hear the vocals. She inferred that I had a cheek to complain about it! I only saw the last performance on the Saturday evening.She read out a quote from the Marketing Department about the price increase. It has all to do with savings that the council has to make. Consequently, they couldn't justify subsidising the festival with the same amount that they have done in the past. Understood and accepted by me.

I have no objection to paying (someone has to clear up etc, altough that used to be done by volunteers).For the quadrupled price I expected a little more than last year; not muffled sound, an early bar and fewer food choices to accompany some mediocre programmes.

We always used to go, not because we like jazz but because the food stalls and other stalls were interesting and we liked the atmosphere. I won't pay £4.00 on principle. It used to be free. Like everything else these days, it's now a rip-off.

I make no apologies for my profanity. What a bloody shame.Smaller crowds, fewer concessions, a bar closing far too early (presumably for the convenience of the jobsworths), a 'mucked about' programme (Keith Waithe is a Friday EVENING stalwart not a &%!!! tea-time act) and, quadrupled admission prices. Well 'Bells Killjoys' - nice one and doubtless the same economic 'wonderbrains' will bemoan the lower revenues - no sh*t Sherlock- that's what happens when you quadruple prices.Come on 'Events' team, start working on some decent sponsorship for 2012, drop it back to, say £2 with a £5 season ticket and return the Festival to it's rightful place as the premier jazz festival in the UK not the pale sham that the current administration have managed to make it.Rant over!
