Best Fish & Chips in Ealing?

We tend to go to the 2 on Northfields Ave (Andy's and Kings) both of which are not particularly good and expensive. Does anyone have any better suggestions within the wider Ealing area?

I think West Kebab on Northfield Avenue has improved recently. I always thought their (always cooked-to-order) fish had batter that was a little too al dente for my personal taste. The past two times, however, the batter has been a little more yielding and hence utterly delicious.As for their chips, not only are they fab but you won’t get larger portions ANYWHERE. A small portion will feed three people. This may or may not be a good thing, depending on how greedy you are.

Last time I went to Andy's I wanted fish & chips twice - he said he only had one and half portions of chips and didn't want to cook any more as it was getting late. He only charged me for one portion but that's not the point. The fish was dry also. That was over a year ago but I never went back

Kings in Northfields use pre prepped chips thats why they're so dry, West Kebab are by far the better of the 3 in Northfields I agree, Costas in Bilton road have gone downhill unfortunately, however I found a little gem just off of the north circular last week, awkward to get to but great, you have to come off of the gyratory onto Ealing road towards sainsbury Alperton then, turn round at Mcdonalds and turn left so your in the slip road alongside the north circular next to the motorbike shop (no access from north circ')

I think message was misunderstood. They do not sell pork and their chicken is halal. It's just that chips in some other shops MAY be fried in the same oil as non halal chicken or pork sausages. This won't bother non muslims such as myself but is important to know for those of the muslim faith. There are many excellent chip shops around but they cannot often guarantee that they never use the same oil for items other than chips.

Brother's Kebab (opposite the South Ealing Health Centre) provide good value for money and is open until at least one most nights and often stay open until two on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

I believe part of the issue may be that Andy uses Rapeseed oil, which has hardly any trans fats at high temperatures.. whereas more traditional oils do have a different taste but also more of an impact on health. Seems a good trade off....  although I do generally tend to use the fish and chip shop in Hanwell (The Golden Chip, Boston Road) but purely Ealing - it has to be Andy's, not found one better, and did look for a while whilst they were closed!

Yup another vote for Blue Ocean from me, we're about 300yards away from it and it's wonderful. Light batter and always service with a smile. He's been there years and years so must be good at it by now! :) omnomonom

I'd like to second this one.  It looks like an ordinary grotty kebab house but the fish and chips are extraordinary.  I live within walking distance of Andy's but drive to West Kebab for fish and chips when sober enough!

Although it is from the outside a kebab shop, the takeaway opposite the Northfields Library also sells traditional fish and chips. They are always cooked to order. The fish is good, the batter crispy and the chips first class. Portion sizes are also very large.Also as the business is halal there is no problem for chicken or pork being fried in the same oil as the fish and chips. Excellent !

I agree that the Golden Chip is good but Ocean Fresh in the Uxbridge Road near Arnolds is a pretty decent alternative.

Used to go The Blue Ocean in Pitshanger Lane. Good, but not nearly as good as....The Golden Chip in Lower Boston Road, Hanwell.  Fantastic, value-for-money and brilliantly cooked (and to order if you want to wait) Fish, Chips and mushy peas!I honestly don't go anywhere else these days.

I'd feel rotten if I didn't mention The Lotus House on South Ealing Road, just south of Popes Lane.  While the place could do with a refurb, the plaice (and cod) have been good for many years.

Totally agree. Golden Chip is the only chippy I've found in London that could cut it oop north.

The very best fish & chips in the area is not in Ealing... but in Hanwell - The Golden Chip!Well worth travelling that little bit further for.I won't go anywhere else these days.

I agree. The Chinese chippy opposite The Drayton is good and quick and friendly service. Even better product since they installed a brand new frier.

I thought the excellent chippie on Bond Street was Maxwell's (now sadly gone). The only 'King's' I remember on Bond Street was a florists which might explain why the chips were strange :-)

Andy's is my favourite. I really would suggest having a word with Andy though if there are problems with what we has offered you.  I guess that I have got to know the guy over the years and I think that he would willing to listen and try to correct any problems.

If you can, try the one opposite The Drayton Court, W13. A well kept secret, know their fish and never had any problems around quality in the 3 years I've been going there. It's just had a refurb (formerly Tai Hing Fish Bar or something?) but it's the same people.

Opposite Ealing Broadway station, well, diagonally opposite is a new Fish and Chips setup which is related to Chris's fish and chips in Turnham Green terrace. Excellent quality and friendly assistants. As everywhere else the rocksalmon is cooked to order but so far always been of good quality and fresh. Can't say the same of the other places mentioned along Northfields Avenue and Pitshanger Lane. So this one is well worth a try! No relation.....no investment, no shares.  Extra morsel on the lips a lifetime on the hips. Yes!!!

Nigel to be fair Andy's is better than Kings but i still do not think it a great fish and chip shop. Don't know if it is oil, batter, type of potatoes or what. So I take it Andy's is your favourite in Ealing?

Is King's the same King's as used to be at the top of Bond Street?  If so it used to be excellent.  Now each time I go it seems to be a bit worse.  Last Monday all they had on offer were sausages. Time to look elsewhere. It's not takeaway but I had excellent fish and chips at the Castlebar, 84 Uxbridge Road, massive hand cut chips and friendly and attentive service

I never thought that I would see Andy's and Kings in the same sentence.Andy's is by far and away the best fish and chip shop in the area and I am amazed that you have had poor quality fish and chips there. Good fish and chips is no longer a cheap meal. I would suggest that you speak to Andy and tell him your concerns. I have not had a problem with the shop on that site (the former owner was his cousin and another relative before that) and have used them for over thirty years.King's on the other hand - used only once when Andy's was closed - and you have my full agreement about quality.
