what a lovely area...

What happened to Ealing!    I have lived here all my life and I cant believe the things that are going on now Shootings,stabbings,assaults etc. I cant even understand the language anymore. I feel sorry for my grandchildren as this is all they will know of the area which was never that bad when I was growing up! People just dont care about anybody anymore there is no respect for anyone or anything.Yes I know it is not just Ealing that it is happening in and it is all over the country but it is making us an angry country.

If the police don't turn out then involve councillors, MP's and give it as much publicity as possible. I am sick and tired, as are most good officers, about our police being deskbound paper-jockies.If you don't report the crime, then don't complain about the perpetrators repeating the offence.

I dont think the police come to the house. They'd have to get a bus to the station and wait in the queue until they're seen. I think far less than half the 'pick pocket' robberies ae reported. whats the point even if they are caught whats going to happen to them? I know thats not the right way to think but its the way most people do.

"seems there is a gang at work targeting the elderly"....and they don't want to report it !!!??My mum is 87 and she would have no hesitation in sitting down for half an hour at home,having a cup of tea with a police officer, and giving a statement.

I did sugest that they reported it to the police but they said they couldn't be doing all the form filling in etc. I think they know that the crime wont be solved, and if it is the thief wont get punished. They almost feel it was there own fault for not feeling it being taken, not hiding it well enough or for carrying a large amount, and they end up feeling foolish. Just goes to show that the crime figures, in reality, are probabley double what we're told. Since then annother old lady has had her purse £60 stolen on northfields or the E2 bus, people need to be vigilant .

The problem with no reporting crime is the police get (and give) a false representation of local crime statistics. If it isn't reported it will never get solved. Sadly it's rarely the police that decide the level of punishment and when I knew people in 'The Job' they were all frustrated by both the CPS and liberal sentencing.

"unfortunately none of these ladies have reported it to the police."Probably wouldn't do much good anyway. Last year a lady was robbed at a cashpoint in Chiswick by two guys, who were apprehended, mainly due to the intervention of members of the public. The 'punishment'? A caution.

You're not moving away from the theme Marie. Words fail me forthose who target the elderly. Please urge the ladies to report the crime, else the police can do nothing and two crimes go unreported.I do wonder though why elderly people insist on carrying or withdrawing fairly large amounts of cash. My mother, rest her soul, was the same. I can't remember the last time that I carried more than about £10 in cash.

moving away from this thread slightly, two ladies i know, both over 80, have had thier purses and bank books stolen in west ealiing either on the E3 or at the bus stop outside wilkinson, both had come straight from the bank after withdrawing £150 and £200. I suspect they have been follwed from the bank. This also happened to an elderly neighbour of mine in sainsburys all this within the last month. seems there is a gang at work targeting the elderly. unfortunately none of these ladies have reported it to the police.

It has improved. My dad was one of a large family from East Acton, and told me that the Notting Hill, Chiswick, and East Acton gangs used to arrange fixed battles, armed with broken bottles, knives, chains, or anything else to hand. Each could fill a mile of road several people wide. East Acton was used as overspill from docklands, although my grandfather came from a very different background so the family was not involved.

Ealing shares the problems of most urban areas caused by years of poor parenting - for God's sake learn to say 'no' and mean it - and our justice system run by bleeding-heart liberals.That said, save for the huge increase in 'black-on'black' crime I can't say that I have noticed a massive problem.There were always assaults in Ealing, I can  remember gangs being around 40 years ago when I was a child, there was always vandalism.The problem is that the good kids (the majority) don't get the publicity that the few scumbags - who ruin it for the vast majority- do.
